May was all about getting back into the swing of things after Florida and planning our next getaway. We had the extreme luck of another trip starting on the last day of May, so as I type this I’m currently sitting on a beautiful big balcony in Portugal. Of course, I’ll cover this trip in June’s Happy List. It took some time to get back into things after Florida what with the jetlag and everything so May was a relatively quiet month. Here’s a little recap of the month.

1. We went to see the 25th anniversary screening of Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. We’d just got back from Florida so it was a nice little transition back and now we’re working our way through the rest of the films. We were the first ones in the cinema but it soon filled up!
2. We finally had some warm weather in the UK but sadly it didn’t last long. Still, it was enough for a few days to sit outside, a beer garden trip or two and the first BBQ of the year. I’m praying for a proper summer though because we had the heating on again just a few days later!
3. I absolutely cannot miss the Northern Lights from this post, can I?! When I read that they’d be visible in the UK I kinda rolled my eyes because every time it says that we never see anything. So I was super surprised to find that we got a beautiful view of them. I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights and it’s still a dream of mine to travel somewhere like Iceland and try to see them but it was amazing to be able to walk to the bottom of our street and see them for the first time!
4. I made a very expensive, but totally necessary, purchase in May. Since I became self-employed my laptop has been on a slow decline. It was already about 6-7 years old when I quit my job and an upgrade was definitely pending but after 6 months of long hours working on it, sometimes 7 days a week, it had just about given up and trying to work on it was extremely frustrating. So I took the plunge and upgraded to a Macbook Air. I’m not going to lie I absolutely panicked at spending so much money, especially as it’s an investment in myself and my career but now I’ve got it, I have no regrets.
5. Had to have bright nails for the upcoming holiday and these dragonfruit-inspired ones are some of my favourite nails to date! I absolutely love them and they’ll look even better when I’ve topped up my tan even further!
6. As I’ve mentioned, on the very last day of the month we flew to Portugal. We’d provisionally booked the apartment last year when we got back from our holiday and we’d fallen in love with the place, but when I quit my job and we booked Florida we decided we couldn’t really do another holiday just 4 weeks after such a big break like Orlando. However, at the start of the year, we started talking more about travelling and working. A big reason for me quitting was to travel more so with an apartment provisionally booked it seemed silly to not have a go at taking a working holiday. So that’s exactly what we’re doing right now! I’m really hoping this paves the way for more travel as we can still work and therefore not lose out on money. When we can both work from anywhere in the world, I don’t see the point in sticking around in England!
So that was May! There’ll be a lot more of our Portugal holiday in June’s Happy List and I’ll let you know how we found working on holiday. We’ve already been looking at trips for September or October so this one is the test!
How was May for you? What did you get up to? Let me know in the comments!
