Queen of the late Happy Lists strikes again! But in my defence, I did go on holiday at the start of September and I just haven’t had the chance to sit down and write this until now! Of course, there’ll be more from my holiday in September’s Happy List, which I will try my hardest to publish at the start of the month! August was a fairly nice month to be fair so let’s get into taking a look at the month!

1. I’m not going to lie, even though I still had a summer holiday coming up, I was in full-on autumn prep mode in August. It’s just my favourite time of the year, it always has been, long before the internet romanticised it haha. It was also bizarre that this is the first time I haven’t had to prep to go back to work after the summer holidays after quitting my job at a school last October. It did feel strange but I don’t regret it at all and it was super nice not to spend the end of August worrying about returning to work.
2. In August I decided to take up a new hobby which will be perfect for cosy season. I bought some bold colouring books and some alcohol markers ready to enjoy some screen-free time. I spend all day looking at my laptop and there are quite a few evenings a week when my husband is busy with music stuff and I’m home alone so I wanted something to do rather than just watching TV all the time or mindlessly scrolling. I haven’t had the chance to do too much yet, but the bits I have done, I’ve really enjoyed. It’s really relaxing and because the pictures are bold there’s no concentration required. I’m loving learning how to improve and blend and play with all the colours. I’m really glad I took the plunge into a new hobby!
3. Speaking of hobbies, long-time readers or those who follow me on Instagram will know that I love reading. I always have but my reading mojo has suffered a little this year. I’ve found myself feeling a little bored by my book selections at times and been unable to select what to read because everything seems a little samey. However, I recently got very into BookTok over on my TikTok account and I’m loving it! I’ve been buying some new books and I’ve even dipped my toes into making bookish content over there and I’m enjoying it so much.
4. We didn’t do too much in August because we booked a holiday but my husband had a few gigs, one of which was at the beautiful Monk Bretton Priory which was a stunning backdrop for a gig. My mum also went on holiday to Greece and she FaceTimed me so we could watch the stunning sunset above together.
5. August was our third wedding anniversary. It always feels much longer as we’ve actually been together 17 years this December but we haven’t been married that long. We originally thought about going away for a night or two but we ended up booking our holiday so settled on going out for a meal and some drinks instead.
I think that just about wraps up August! September’s list is going to be a real mixed bag with a summer holiday and full-on autumn haha. I’m truly ready to embrace autumn now!
