The world is full of fascinating places to visit. From tropical beaches to snowy mountaintops to deserts and rainforests, there really is just so much to explore. But sometimes, it’s nice to stay a little closer to home.

The good news is that you don’t need to travel far to enjoy an unforgettable holiday. The UK is packed with beautiful destinations and a rich variety of scenery. Exploring our own shores is an excellent way to enjoy a break with reduced travel time meaning there’s more time spent having fun.

As an island nation, Britain has the advantage of lots of smaller islands surrounding its coastlines. These islands provide the perfect destinations for a holiday and the opportunity to explore parts of the UK that you wouldn’t otherwise consider. There are too many beautiful islands around the UK to discuss in just one blog post. So, instead, we’ll focus on just a few to inspire your next trip. Take a look at these stunning islands welcoming visitors across the UK:

Isle of Anglesey

If you’re a fan of walking, why not pack your hiking boots and bring them with you on a visit to the Isle of Anglesey? This island on the northwest coast of Wales may be small but has so much to offer. You don’t need to travel to the Isle of Anglesey by boat. Instead, you can reach the Isle of Anglesey via the Menai Suspension Bridge or Britannia Bridge. Fans of engineering are sure to be impressed by the bridges themselves, with the Menai Suspension Bridge being the world’s first major suspension bridge.

If you’re looking for a base for your Isle of Anglesey break, the Inn Collection Group offers comfortable accommodation on the island. Once you arrive on the island, there’s much to explore. From long stretches of coastal paths to beautiful sandy beaches. The Isle’s attractions include the Anglesey Sea Zoo, Beaumaris Castle, and the village with famously the longest name in Europe, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

Skye

Skye is located off the northwest coast of Scotland. It is the largest of the islands that form the Inner Hebrides archipelago and is connected to the mainland via a bridge.

The island attracts many walkers and climbers, who flock to Skye to scale its peaks and explore its rugged terrain.

If you’re a fan of wild swimming, a visit to Skye’s famous fairy pools is a must. Even if you don’t fancy taking a dip, a trip these magical pools in Glenn Brittle is well worth it.

Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is just off the Hampshire coast and is accessible via a ferry or hovercraft. The island may be famous for its music festival, but it offers much more, including sandy beaches at Shanklin and Ventnor.

Blackgang Chine is a popular family theme park on the island. While the historic Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne, which is the former home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Which of these islands features on your travel bucket list?
