CBD has been a bit of a buzz word for a while now with people raving about the benefits for relieving stress and anxiety to the many skin complaints it can ease when used in skincare. But what exactly is CBD? Is it worth the hype and should you be looking at adding some CBD products to your skincare routine?

What is CBD?
CBD or cannabidiol comes from a cannabis plant. Specifically the hemp plant, given that it’s high in CBD and low in THC which is the element of a cannabis plant that gets you high. Our bodies actually have an endocannabinoid system with two CBD receptors. One for brain health and one found in the cells in our immune systems.
Although there’s still a lot of research to be done around CBD and our endocannabinoid system, early signs show that the inclusion of CBD, by ingestion or applied topically in the form of skincare, can be good for our overall health. When it comes to select the right products and researching CBD for yourself it’s always best to use trusted resources such as Weed News.
CBD in skincare products
So if CBD is so good then what are the benefits of using it in skincare products? Many people are raving about CBD for skincare due to its anti inflammatory properties and ability to deal with a variety of skincare complaints.
Psoriasis and eczema
Due to it’s anti inflammatory properties, CBD can sooth the itch and irritation that comes with psoriasis and eczema. There’s also some evidence to suggest that products containing CBD can actually slow down skin cell division in order to reduce the symptoms of these common skin irritations. If either of these skin complaints are an issue for you then look for body lotions of soothing balms containing CBD to help.
Acne
Acne isn’t just something that troubles teens, anyone can get it at any age. It can leave your skin looking inflamed and red and can feel quite sore. Ultimately it can also leave lasting scars too. By introducing a face wash containing CBD though you can help tackle angry spots. CBD reduces sebum in the skin so it’s not as oily and of course those anti inflammatory properties get to work again soothing stressed out skin. Follow up your cleansing routine with a light facial moisturiser containing CBD and you should start to notice a difference in the look and feel of your skin.
Dryness
Now we’re getting into the colder months, skin dryness is something that will probably effect a lot of us and now is a great time to add some new products to your skincare routine. As the weather changes what our skin needs changes too. Try adding a CBD rich facial oil into your routine. Hemp is actually full of great fatty acids and when CBD is extracted from hemp it brings similar properties with it. Oils are a great addition to a skincare routine by using one containing CBD you’ll find that your skin is balanced out in no time.
Anti-aging
We all want to keep our skin looking fresh and youthful don’t we? Well with a CBD skincare routine you can! Look for day and night creams containing CBD as well as serums and eye creams to keep those signs of aging at bay by fighting the effects free radical damage.
How to pick the best CBD skincare products
So now you know all the wonderful skin benefits of using CBD how do you actually go about finding the right products? First off I suggest doing your research. CBD is completely legal but reputable sellers like the natural wellness company Holland and Barrett actually have an 18+ age limit on their CBD products. You want to be buying CBD skincare from sellers you know and trust to ensure that you’re getting the best quality products with the right amount of CBD in them.
When looking for CBD products you need to remember not to get mixed up with hemp oil. Hemp has been used in beauty products for years and is wonderful but you need to check the ingredients for CBD or cannabidiol.
And finally, like with any skincare routine, less is more. CBD skincare products are designed to sooth the skin and bring back balance. If you overwhelm your skin with too many products it’s counterproductive. Daily you should be washing your face in the morning and evening and applying a serum or oil and face cream alongside an eye cream.
Have you tried any CBD products in your skincare routine? Do you have any recommendations? Let me know in the comments.
