Christmas is associated with a multitude of things: red, green, trees, tinsel, candy canes, music, elves, reindeer. The list is certainly long; maybe even as long as Santa’s naughty and nice list. We will all vary slightly on what we think of when Christmas comes to mind.

One thing that may pop up on your Christmas association list is the song The Twelve Days of Christmas. I cannot instantly recite the twelve different gifts, but maybe you can, which is quite impressive. Just in case, let me share with you gift number five: gold rings.
In honour of that lyric, I have spoken with some fellow Christmas enthusiasts and have discovered their top five golden holiday traditions that you can add to your own annual Christmas festivities.
Make It Bright – Christmas Lights
Drive around the city or country and visually grab yourself some holiday cheer. Bring your blankets, candy canes, and hot chocolate. Don’t forget your favourite listening device and turn on the holiday songs as you cruise along. You can even wear pyjamas. For extra festivity points, wear holiday-themed pyjamas. Take photos and choose your favourite light display (it can make a great holiday social media post).
Make It Sweet – Christmas Treats
Cookies, cakes, candy, pies, puddings, brownies. Get into the kitchen and gather those baking supplies. Grab a cookbook, check online, or use word of mouth to discover yummy recipes. Don’t be shy; explore different and new flavours of sweet treats. Find your favourite recipe, package it, and give as gifts.
Make It Beautiful – Christmas Decorations
Visual reminders of the holiday can add extra sparkle to your celebrations. Trees seem to be the focal point of Christmas décor, but there are an array of items you can use with or instead of a tree. There are banners, artwork, statues, snow globes, pillows, blankets. You can use handmade artwork (you may even have pieces saved from school). Utilize your windows and doors as primary real estate space to share your holiday shine with those passing by or visiting. You can commission (or DIY) a beautiful holiday scene on your windows with art supplies. Hang a wreath on your door or a welcome sign with a holiday theme.
Make It Memorable – Christmas Events
Add holiday glee to your schedule by attending local and online events. You can sign up for newsletters from your favourite stores or search the internet and social media for times and locations. You may find carolling concerts, photos with Santa, ice skating rinks, tree lighting ceremonies, ornament workshops, and holiday craft fairs. Take your event attendance one step further and challenge yourself each year to find a new holiday gathering. Your Christmas calendar will be booked and special memories will be made and cherished.
Make It Magical – Christmas Eve
Don’t think you have to wait until you see Santa Claus’ sleigh in the night sky to celebrate your Christmas. Open all of your gifts on Christmas Eve, morning or night whichever is your preference. Eat your Christmas dinner a day early. You can even make the same recipe each year as an added bonus tradition.
Christmas can be one of the busiest times of the year, and by having traditions in place, you eliminate the uncertainty of your holiday planning. Traditions ensure that you get to spend less time worrying and more time enjoying your Christmas holiday.
You may think traditions are not for you, but I recommend giving it a try. There are many more traditions you can look up or create your own. I think you may just discover that traditions can bring an extra meaning into your holidays as you share them and either begin to write or continue to expand on the story of the special memories in your life.

Great little list!
Thanks!
Aww, love these ideas! It is so lovely to have Christmas traditions, it makes it feel more special to me too x
Yes definitely. It’s nice to pick up new traditions every now and then and make them your own.
Christmas Eve is such a magical day, I prefer it to Christmas Eve! These are great ways to make Christmas your own x

Christmas Eve is definitely better than Christmas Day!
I’m slacking hardcore this holiday season — nothing ended up how it usually does. Sigh. There might still be time but now I’m just discouraged lol.
I hope you managed to have a great Christmas. When things don’t go to plan it’s always a good idea to just try and enjoy what’s happening and make the most of it.
