9 fun things to do on Halloween by yourself

7 October 2021 Comments : 22

This is a guest post.

Halloween is a great time of year but obviously not everyone celebrates or likes scary things. Which is fair enough, we can’t all like the same thing but if you’re a scary lover who loves a bit of Halloween but doesn’t really have anyone else to celebrate with, then here are some fun ideas of things you can do by yourself.

I’m big on celebrating things – regardless of whether it’s a huge party of 100 people, a quiet dinner with just your best friend or celebrating by yourself. Life is too short – so take the time to celebrate the things you like!

I’m a huge lover of anything scary. Like I absolutely love it and luckily one of my closest friends is just as obsessed with horror as I am! I’ve never been one to go overboard with Halloween (although I am in the UK and we don’t do Halloween nowhere near as incredibly as the US does!) but I always make a point to celebrate and pay homage to Horror and all things scary.

If you’re someone who loves horror and Halloween but doesn’t always have someone to celebrate with, maybe this year it’s time to celebrate by yourself! Here are some fun ways you can do that:

Have a scary movie night

I mean, an obvious one but you really can’t beat a scary movie night at times, can you? I’ll be honest, I do this most months. Not just around Halloween! I love the Horror genre of movies because it’s SO vast and there’s something to capture a whole host of imaginations.

From the gore of Saw to the subtle scariness of Paranormal Activity to the chilling Thriller of The Boy and Aftermath, Horror comes in all forms and films really show that. So whether you fancy home invasions, psychopaths, demons or witchcraft – there’s something for you!

Bake spooky themed cakes

I did this last year and it was really fun. Although albeit the cupcakes I made definitely weren’t scary to look at (a marshmallow with eyes isn’t scary, let’s be honest), it was a fun thing to do in the build up to Halloween. There are a ton of spooky baking ideas on Pinterest if you need some inspiration!

Play scary PlayStation games

Or whichever console takes your fancy. If there’s one thing I love more than scary films, it’s scary games. My two favourites are The Last of Us and Until Dawn and I love spending an evening dedicated to working my way through the scary storylines.

Do an online escape room

Online escape room became really popular over the course of the pandemic when we were in lockdown and I think they’re a fantastic idea and make the fun and excitement of escape rooms more accessible to more people.

Obviously real life escape rooms aren’t suitable for some people for a wide range of reasons, so an online escape room is a great option and also a great idea for something fun to do yourself on Halloween!

Binge watch your favourite scary YouTube channels

I’m also a sucker for spooky YouTube channels. I love Bailey Sarian from Mystery & Make Up, Loey Lane and Hailey Reese, who all do fantastic spooky YouTube videos around everything from paranormal stories, true crime and the dark web.

Turning a light off, sticking some Autumnal candles on with a cup of something hot, some of your spooky treats and a binge watch of your favourite scary YouTube channels is a great way to spend Halloween!

Celebrating anything also is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. There does tend to be this taboo around doing things by yourself but there absolutely doesn’t have to be – it’s so empowering to enjoy your own company!

If you really want to go all out with your solo Halloween celebrations you could even:

– Take yourself on a cinema date to see a new scary movie

– Do a real life escape room by yourself (or with strangers you meet there!)

– Do a haunted tour experience

– Go shopping for Halloween goodies

How will you be celebrating Halloween this year? Do you prefer a big party or do you like to do things by yourself?

Thank you! I do love scary movies, though I’m not sure how well I’d cope watching one on my own haha.

Doing an online escape room on Halloween is a great idea, definitely easier than trying to go out and do one! x

I also love watching scary movies all year round! My partner and I watched all of the Conjuring series over the summer, lol. The baking idea is great, I may try that with a couple of friends this year!

I mean on Halloween itself I’ll be working, but in the evening the boyfriend is home for movie night. In the week though on my days off, I’m all about Halloween and autumn crafting, baking and listening to spooky podcasts!
Fab list… I hadn’t thought of scary gaming!
