Boost Your Career This Autumn With a Great Mood-board

22 September 2022 Comments : 4

Having a mood board is a great way to not only provide focus on a certain area of your life, but it helps clarify what you need to do to achieve your goals. Mood-boards can be created using images, quotes or affirmations, tables, or graphics and more. It can also be a great way to improve your career this Autumn.

For me having a mood-board not only helps me to clarify what I am aiming for in my life, but it is a great tool for productivity and motivation. These are great to have when we transition to new seasons or periods in our lives.

What To Include On Your Mood-board

  • Images
  • Words or quotes
  • Inspiration
  • Goals or aspirations
  • Work life balance or how you want your life to look
  • Positivity

Why Is Autumn A Great Time To Do This?

For me September and entering the Autumn period is a great way of beginning a new chapter. Not only this but a lot of companies advertise new jobs during this period, a lot of changes tend to happen at work during this period and a new season can inspire your career.

Therefore, I always love to create a mood-board during this new season because it can help provide a boost with your goals but also motivate you. This can be especially true if you feel stuck in a rut of doing the same job and routine over and over again.

A new season can provide a new outlook on your personal or work life and this can be implemented and why it is a great time to go over these goals.

How Can A Mood-board Help Me Visualise My Goals And Dreams?

A great way to get inspired and to tackle projects in your job role and display what you hope to accomplish is how these boards can help you visualise this.

You don’t need to write thousands of words or paragraphs of your goals and dreams, but instead have a visual display that you can wake up in the mornings and look to everyday. These boards can capture your intentions, organise your plans and convey what you want to happen in the future. This then should encourage a more productive environment.

Also if you are working in a team in your job role then mood-boards are great at being an effective tool for showcasing a project you all may be working on, whilst also give collaborators that creative freedom. Hopefully this should inspire better work collaborations and encourage a hard work ethic as you all work towards your team goals.

So let me guide you in how to create one…

How To Create A Career Mood-board

There are two ways that you can go about this.

1. Create one physically yourself.
2. Create a digital one to have on your phone or laptop.

If you go with option 1 then this can be super simple and a great creative outlet. Therefore, make sure to grab the scissors and use magazines (if you still buy those) or print off your own inspirational photos from online and get creating.

For me I just tend to place as many photos, words or quotes onto an A6 piece of paper and then this can go up on my wall in front of my desk and is a constant reminder.

If you go with option 2 then I would suggest using Canva to help you create your own digital version. Canva just makes it easy and effective as there are templates that you can use, and the great news is you can download Canva for FREE. However, if you do want extra features then I do recommend the paid version (which is what I currently use).

You can also choose to create your digital version just on MS Word, PowerPoint or even with Google slides, if you would prefer this over downloading Canva.

Overall, one thing you cannot do on a physical mood-board is use videos or sounds so that is another plus if you do choose to create a digital version.

Where To Start?

Now approaching a mood-board depends on the type you want it to be. For today’s purpose and theme, we are focusing on career’s during the Autumn. So, what I would say initially is take inspiration from this season and also the change in your career or what is currently in alignment with you and your career.

This board should give a sense of what your goals are, where you want to be, your requirements and exploring potential dreams. You also want it to look and be in align with what you like visually. Choose colours and images that are positive for you, otherwise looking at it every day is just going to lower your mood rather than inspire you.

In terms of that theme of colours as we are transiting into Autumn think about oranges, yellows and browns. A lot of research has been conducted on colours and warm colours have shown to be positive and make us feel good (a great marketing tip there as well).

Make A Plan

This can link into the point above but planning is essential for you to be able to become aware of what is most important to you.

I personally love creating mind-maps, so for me I would grab a piece of paper (you can use your notes on your phone to just list if you prefer) and a pen and note down everything with your career. This includes your goals, where do you want to be, what is the perfect work environment for you, perfect work location, perfect wage, think about the work hours, if you are not currently doing a job you like then think about what job roles you aspire to be in.

Brain dumping (as I like to call it) is a great way to get everything out of your head and present this information to yourself as clearly as possible. This way you can look at it and go from there. This can help you set realistic goals and find out what you really want in terms of your career.

Overall

To bring everything together make sure you create a plan and brain dump all your intentions, gather images or words or quotes that inspire you so that you can bring it together on your board. Lastly, use this transition period into Autumn to inspire your creativity and prioritise what you want from your role and how you can attract and work towards your goals and dreams.
