Valentine’s date ideas for gamers

With a little over a month until Valentine’s Day rolls around you might be wondering how to get romantic this year. As a gamer you hobby probably plays a big part in your life and sometimes it might feel like it’s hindering your dating prospects rather than helping them. Worry not though as I have a bunch of great gamer date ideas to see you through Valentine’s!

Valentine’s can be seen as a bit of a cheesy, commercial holiday. If we’re being completely honest with ourselves, that’s exactly what it is. However there’s nothing wrong with a bit of light-hearted fun and romance and Valentine’s Day could be just the excuse you need to find someone who shares your hobbies and interests. Nerd dating doesn’t have to completely revolve around gaming but it’s a pretty good place to start!

Play video games together

We might as well start with the obvious one hadn’t we? If you’re both into gaming then the obvious date night option is to play your favourite games together. You could choose games you both love for a bit of bonding time but also why not introduce each other to your favourite games. It’s a great way to get talking and learn more about each other as you teach each other has to play!

My fiancé and I both love a game of Crash Team Racing together and we get pretty competitive but he’d never know what to do on The Sims and I wouldn’t have the first clue about Star Wars Battlefront. It’s a fun way to get to know what you both like and get a little closer to each other.

Go old school

Chances are if you class yourself as I gamer it’s video games you enjoy. But why not go old school for one night and get out the board games? They can be just as fun and even more competitive than computer games. It’s a nice way to spend an evening not staring at a screen. Grab some snacks and some drinks and try not to fall out over a game of Monopoly!

Try out an escape room

For a bit of real life gaming then why not put your skills to the test in an escape room? Either test your skills out against each other or team up and work together against another couple. Gamer dates don’t have to just involve a screen and a video game and an escape room is a great chance to have some fun and either get competitive or work together in real life not just virtually.

Get offline

Hear me out with this. If your shared interest is gaming then spending date nights doing that very thing is the obvious and easy choice. But there is a danger of it getting repetitive. Make sure you keep things fresh and mix it up with some non game related dates too.

To take a break from the screens at home but still enjoy something gaming related you could always do other gamer activities such as visiting an arcade or a gaming convention.

Retro night

Have you both grown up with a love of gaming? Did Spyro or Crash Bandicoot ignite your passion for video games? Then go retro! If you still have your old consoles dust then off for retro gaming night.

If things have got a little more serious between you and your date or you’re a long term gamer couple having a date night and you don’t own a retro console then why not invest in one together. Some of the older consoles are pretty cheap to pick up now.
