Relationship Tips To Survive False Assault Allegations

This is a contributed post

False assault allegations can hit your career and life hard despite your innocence. The gravity of the crime is enough to affect you in more than one way. After all, it is hard to convince others with your side of the story when a woman accuses you of assault or molestation. The situation affects your reputation and integrity at work.

Even worse, it can harm your relationship with your partner. You cannot expect your spouse or girlfriend to take things in stride, and the false charges can weaken the foundation of your marriage or love life. But you can salvage your relationship if you are innocent and your love for each other is unshakable. Let us share a few relationship tips to survive false assault allegations.

Be honest with your partner

Being honest with your partner is the only way to regain trust and save your relationship from permanent damage. You will not have to do much to convince them if you are genuinely innocent. Giving an honest narrative of the incident is often enough to get your story through. Be open to your partner even if you indulged in a harmless act that led to the allegations. Do not conceal facts because they will come to light eventually and worsen the situation. Speak the truth, and trust your love to carry you through the crisis.

Convince with proof

Although an honest conversation is often enough to gain the trust of your partner, it is always better to convince them with proof. Collecting evidence of your innocence is a good idea as it will help with your defense strategy down the line. Gather details like texts and emails, phone conversations, and video footage of the incident. Any piece of evidence matters, no matter how insignificant it seems. Get a co-worker to vouch for you because it can make a difference. Gathering proof may sound like a daunting task while dealing with the trauma of false allegations. But it is worthwhile when it comes to saving your relationship and proving your innocence.

Work on the legal aspect

Building your legal defense is a crucial part of keeping your relationship on track after false assault allegations. After all, you have to stay out of jail to resume normalcy. You must see a sex crimes attorney sooner than later because skimping on legal defense is not a choice, regardless of your innocence. You cannot expect the police or court to take your word, and only a robust defense plan can validate your statements. The police may call you for interrogation, but you must stay silent and speak only after your attorney’s intervention. Narrate the story and provide all the evidence you have to the lawyer. Also, avoid confronting the accuser, no matter how much you want to do it.

Seek support from your partner

Working together to prove your innocence can strengthen your relationship in a crisis. You must seek support from your partner because the road back is likely long and daunting. But having someone who trusts you brings strength and confidence to deal with the challenges of the journey. Moreover, your partner may see a point you may have missed. Ask them to accompany you to attorney meetings and court proceedings to boost your self-esteem. You may also need financial support to fight out until the end. Do not hesitate to ask for it because sticking together makes you a stronger couple.

Rebuild your relationship

You cannot expect life to be easy even when you prove your innocence and get a clean chit from court. Be ready to invest effort in rebuilding your relationship because it may have sustained damage despite getting through the crisis. Spend time together to heal and nurture your bond again. It is even more crucial when you have a family because your kids need you to be together to hold everything in place. You may encounter social stigma during the case and even after coming out clean. Being together as a cohesive unit puts you in a good place to overcome the stigma and resume normalcy. Building back is never easy after a false allegation of a sex crime, but a commitment to staying together as a couple can keep your relationship intact. You must do your best to win your partner’s trust in the first place. Once you have their support, work like a team because it is the only way to get through the challenging situation. Showing gratitude is equally crucial, so thank them for staying at your side during the crisis.
