Happy List: December 2020

2 January 2021 Comments : 22

Well here we are, 2020’s last Happy List. What a wild ride it’s been for these posts over the past year. Who knows what 2021’s Happy Lists will look like. December was pretty great, despite everything that’s going on the festive period actually wasn’t much different for us because we always have a quiet Christmas anyway. Here’s how December went.

I was determined to fully enjoy December and both the run up to Christmas and the day itself. Christmas is my favourite time of the year and although it hasn’t quite been the same this year I still managed to have a really lovely time.

1. Christmas was the usual affair, it’s only ever us two for dinner anyway and that’s just the way we like it. We had a lovely and relaxed Christmas Day and I did manage to enjoy the build up to my favourite time of the year too.

2. Speaking of Christmas, Josh only went and bought me a Baby Yoda didn’t he?! He’s so bloody cute, I couldn’t believe it when I unwrapped him. I wrote a full post on what we got for Christmas so if you’d like to have a look at some of my other gifts then you should check that out!

3. My Christmas holidays from work are always very much welcomed. I’m lucky enough to get three weeks off work at Christmas and the break was really needed. It’s been so good to just do nothing!

4. A real highlight of the month was getting to see my niece and nephew at Christmas. I’ve hardly seen them this year and it makes me really sad that I’ve missed so much of my nephew growing up as I saw my niece loads when she was a baby. Getting to spend some time with them both was lovely but getting to have that bond with my nephew meant a lot.

5. We got snow! It wasn’t a white Christmas unfortunately but a few days later we woke up to a lovely blanket of thick snow. That called for an early morning snow walk and spending the rest of the day getting cosy. Snow days are the best when you don’t have to go to work in them.

6. December had a couple of celebrations for us. Firstly we celebrated being engaged for 2 years, we should have been married by now and I have everything crossed that it actually happens in 2021. A couple of days later we also celebrated our 13th anniversary. I can’t quite believe we’re in the teens now!

So that was December, certainly much quieter and slower paced than what December usually looks like for us but pretty perfect all the same. It was nice to just slow down, relax and enjoy the little things. Life has had a slower pace to it in 2020 but when you still have to go out to work you don’t really get to embrace that so it was nice to spend my favourite time of the year doing just that.

How was December for you? Let me know in the comments!

It sounds like an incredible Christmas for you. I am not at all jealous that you have 3 weeks off, nope not at all (cries)

I wish we’d had snow. Although we have had some beautiful winter days recently and are just about to head off for a nice long walk!

Enjoy your holiday and heres to a great 2021 x x

This is such a lovely, reflective post. I think its so important to see the positives rather than focusing on the negatives. I had a lovely December too and am grateful for the slower pace and just being able to stay at home doing the things I enjoy.

My December is usually pretty quiet as well. Christmas was the same because my son is always gone for the holiday so it wasn’t anything new but I love this time to myself. Ending the year in peace. LOL!

December was quite hectic at work, it felt too long but once the Christmas week hit, it felt too rewarding to just stay at home and follow my own pace. Just like you, Christmas was quiet, actually more serene, it gave me and my family more time to reflect on the year that’s been and count what we have as beautiful blessings. Christmas this year was intimate, yet personally, it was one of the most meaningful yet!

I enjoyed reading through your December, Lauren. Thank you as always for sharing your thoughts with us and for being an inspiration. Happy New Year to you and your family. Stay safe and healthy always!

December felt really weird this year but lovely at the same time. I have an 8-month-old so it was his first Christmas and we tried to make it as special as we could for him. I found there wasn’t much build-up this year, I absolutely love Christmas but It just didn’t feel as special last year. Hopefully, this year will be very different and our baby will be older so he will understand more of whats going on. Last year he just tried to eat all the wrapping paper haha.

Haha bless him! This Christmas will be so much more magical because he’s going to be a lot more aware! I get what you mean, I love the build up to Christmas more than the day itself and it was just lacking.

Sounds like a great month for you! I enjoyed 2 weeks off over Christmas. It was great but, now that I’ve been back to work for a week, I feel like I was never off.

    Happy New Year!

It sounds like you had a wonderful holiday! I’m glad you got to spend some time with your niece and nephew over the holidays. It’s so hard being away from family, especially the little ones. I hope you have a wonderful new year!
