If you’re anything like me then you’ll love treating others at Christmas. It brings me so much joy to be able to buy nice things for my family. Last year though I made a point of treating myself too, both physically and mentally. And do you know what, it was the best thing ever. So this year I’m going to share with you how to treat yourself at Christmas and why you should!

A gift to yourself
Have you ever bought yourself a gift at Christmas? I did last year, in fact I bought several gifts for myself and it was bloody wonderful! I spend a lot of time planning and saving for gifts for my family because it brings me so much joy. It’s very rare I actually treat myself through out the year normally because I usually like to put any spare cash aside for holidays and mini breaks (or more recently our wedding) but last year I made a point of buying myself a few gifts too and you can bet I put them under the tree too!
My fiancé and I actually both bought ourselves a few gifts and we can both highly recommend in. It might seem odd at first but if you’re in the habit of not really buying much for yourself the rest of the year then I highly recommend treating yourself to a few gifts. I ditched the sensible mindset I normally have and made sure I bought things I wanted not needed!
I’ve done the same again this year and honestly it feel great. I’ve worked bloody hard this year from blogging to my actual job and putting overtime in. I’ve been super fortunate to be able to save quite a good chunk of money for the sole purpose of spending it at Christmas, both on my family and myself. So if you’ve never bought yourself a Christmas gift, it’s something I cannot recommend enough!
Keep your well-being in check
Of course Christmas isn’t just about treating yourself to a few nice gift sets. Treating yourself at Christmas is about keeping your mental health and well-being balanced too.
Christmas can be a tough time, and whilst I’m basically Buddy the Elf from the end of August onwards I am aware the festive season can be hard for some. When we’re really busy, spending more money than usual and going to work and coming home in the dark it’s important to keep your well-being in check. I know the festive season usually brings with it a jam packed schedule but taking some time out to yourself will really help you to enjoy Christmas more. I have a whole bunch of tips on how to have a Christmas self care day that I highly recommend checking out. Burning yourself out at Christmas is unnecessary and it can be avoided.
If you’re struggling with your mental health over Christmas, talk to someone. Don’t feel like you’re being a burden on someone else’s festive joy because you’re not.
Ditch the guilt
Christmas seems to come with a lot of guilt doesn’t it? From food, family and FOMO all making those guilty feelings comes to the surface. Make this Christmas the year you ditch the guilt.
There is absolutely nothing you’re obliged to do at Christmas so if seeing family isn’t you’re thing for what ever reason then you don’t have to do. I wrote a whole post about things you’re not obliged to do at Christmas a few years ago now. I still stand by it now. I’m a massive believer in ditching the idea that doing things that make you happy is selfish. Compromise is necessary sometimes but not at the expense of your own happiness and well-being.
This Christmas make sure you treat yourself physically and mentally. 2020 has been a year but the Christmas magic is still there. Looking after your well-being and embracing the full magic of the festive season while indulging in a few things you want is the key to ending this year on a high.
How do you treat yourself at Christmas? Do you buy yourself some Christmas gifts? Let me know in the comments.

These are some great suggestions. I give myself a gift sometimes too. Especially if I’ve found something that I love and know that nobody will think of it.
It’s always nice to treat yourself!
Christmas is a time of year where people do forget about the wellbeing of themselves and are more focused on making others happy, it’s important to take a step back and focus on you when needed to! x

Yes definitely! I couldn’t agree with this more!
I love the idea of buying yourself a gift at Christmas – I try to always buy myself a small Christmas present, my friend told me about it a few years ago and I just love it. Great post! x
It’s great to treat yourself to something at Christmas!
Thanks for sharing, I’m treating myself to a few things this year, it does make you feel better 🙂
It’s such a great thing to do!
I’ve given myself gifts at Christmas! It is fun for sure, and a special treat. I love that you point out that Christmas can also be a season of guilt in a lot of ways, that it’s perfectly okay not to go to every holiday party or whatever the case may be. Sometimes we just have to say no, even at Christmas.
Yes definitely, it’s all about doing what makes you happy!
What a lovely idea, I love the idea of buying myself just something for me!

I love treating myself at Christmas!
Love these ideas! I’ve treated myself to a few things from Book Depository and Etsy this month – it’s a great way to cheer yourself up!
It is! It’s always good to treat yourself!
I love this idea! Especially making some time to take care of myself. I love the holidays, but it can definitely become overwhelming. Great post!!
Thanks. It really can!
Really like some of these ideas – we spend so much time ourselves ensuring our kids have what they want nd as great as that is, sometimes we don’t really consider ourselves. So instead we’ll be treating ourselves with time, some of our favourite snacks and films etc. Glad we can see family this year too despite everything going on!
That sounds great!
