If you’re feeling the festive burnout then it’s definitely time for a Christmas self care day. With jam packed schedules in December it’s easy to feel run down but no one wants to feel like that before the big day has even arrived so here’s how to indulge in a little bit of me time this Christmas.
Keep a weekend free
If you’re anything like me then from the end of November onwards I usually have something on most weekends up to Christmas. While it’s nice to have plans and we always have lots of fun on our days out around Christmas it’s always nice to have a bit of breathing space and keep a weekend free to just catch up on household chores then relax and do nothing else. Not only is it good to take a break and re-energise but if you’re an introvert then it’s likely that all those plans and days out will lead you to burn out quicker so a weekend people free is always a good idea too!
Have a Lush bath
I’m a huge fan of Lush products and there’s nothing I love more than their Christmas range so an evening chilled out in a hot bath with a festive bath bomb and lots of lovely smelling creams and sprays for when I’m out and dry is my idea of the perfect way to unwind over the Christmas period. If you’re a bit clueless as to where to start with Lush products I can highly recommend everything that has the Twilight/Sleepy scent or any of their Christmas bath bombs because there’s so many to choose from I can’t just pick one!
Read a festive book
It’s a tradition of mine to read A Christmas Carol every year and it’s something I’ve done for around the past 10 years or so but throughout December I always try and read another festive book or two. Reading before bed really helps me to relax and after a busy day of festive fun there’s nothing better than curling up in bed and reading a Christmas story. I’m actually a big fan of reading children’s and young adult Christmas stories as I personally think they’re much better but often an easier read. If you’ve had a busy day trying to get it a heavy going book just isn’t going to happen but getting lost in a children’s novel is quite easy to do. Remember, there is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying children’s books as adults. In previous years I’ve read Matt Haig’s range of Christmas books and this year I’m reading The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher which I’m really enjoying.
Christmas movie day
What better way to unwind than with a Christmas movie day?! Lounge around in your festive pjs, gather the blankets and open the tub of chocolates and spend the day watching your favourite Christmas movies. I love nothing more than doing this and it’s a great way to relax but still be in the festive spirit. My personal favourite Christmas films are Polar Express, Muppets Christmas Carol and Disney’s version of A Christmas Carol with Jim Carey. Klaus and The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix are also really good choices.
Have a pamper session
To ensure you don’t look as well as feel burnt out for Christmas Day, indulge in a bit of pamper time to make sure you’re glowing for the continued festivities. Go all out with a face mask, sort your eyebrows and nails, make sure you’re exfoliating and moisturising and just treat yourself!
You don’t have to do everything
I think the most important point out of all of this is to take some time to remember you don’t have to do everything. Sure, Christmas can be fun but it can be a big stress for some people too. The best bit of self care you can indulge in is making sure you have the Christmas you really want, you are under no obligation to do certain things just because it’s Christmas. Say no to things that don’t make you happy and don’t succumb to the pressures of the season If you enjoyed this post then you might want to check out the following: 5 things you’re not obliged to do at Christmas5 self care tips you need to practice this autumnHow to make sure you’re prepared for Christmas What’s you’re favourite way to relax over the festive period? Beautiful blog! And this is a great post. Christmas is supposed to feel magical and peaceful not a mad rush. We need to pause at this time of year.
