Amazing places to visit during autumn in the U.K.

I’m a big fan of autumn, it’s my favourite season. Alongside that I love finding new places to visit in the autumn too which is why I’m really happy to have this wonderful guest post, from Claire, on my blog today.

I’m Claire and I blog over at Our Favourite Jar. I blog all things lifestyle, family, generally being happy and spreading some kindness around the place. As a family, one of our favourite things to do is go out and explore. Today Lauren has allowed me to share with you, some beautiful places to visit this Autumn, ones we love to visit each year.

Why is autumn so special?

I absolutely love autumn and I know I’m not alone. All you need to do is lose yourself in Pinterest for a few hours to see lots of brilliant autumn content. Instagram is awash with autumn content as well. Often providing lots of inspiration for days out with the family.

The changing of seasons from summer to autumn is the key to it’s beauty and magic. Suddenly green leaves give way to orange, yellow, red and brown. Turning the world in to a mass of colour.

The night’s draw in and the cosy feeling descends on our homes. What’s not to love?

Plus the weather has that crisp feel about it. You can go out in a coat while rocking the sunglasses still.

Autumn days out

Autumn is the perfect time to head for a day out. It can be tempting to snuggle down for the season. Hibernate until spring, but why waste the opportunity for fresh air, beautiful weather and even more impressive scenery?

With spring and most of summer 2020 spent indoors thanks to the lockdown. This autumn seems even more important. A chance to make-up for all those missed family days out.

That is why I have come up with an awesome list of places to visit this autumn to share with you all.

Beautiful places to visit this autumn

Batsford Arboretum

My first recommendation is an absolute autumn must. Batsford is in the famously beautiful Cotswolds.

If you like your autumn colours in the form of trees then this is the place for you. Not only does it have beautiful views, it is a lovely place to walk too.

The views are breathtaking. I remember just walking around in complete awe.

There is an on site cafe alongside a garden centre and gift shop. Picnic’s can not be eaten inside the arboretum, but there is space outside by the car park for this. If of course the sun is shining enough to warrant it!

You can walk from here to Moreton-On-The Marsh in about 30 minutes as well. If you have time it is a lovely walk taking you to the heart of the Cotswolds. Which during the Autumn is well worth a visit too.

Alton Towers

If you like Autumn for the sole reason that it brings Halloween, then Alton Towers might be the perfect day out for you.

Each year Alton Towers brings Halloween alive for all those people that live to be scared silly! But not just that, if you and your young family are looking for some Halloween fun there is plenty for all ages.

For the younger visitors, there are 20 rides that can be used at dusk. After a day of Halloween fun and silliness.

For those more hardcore Halloween thrill seekers, you can ride some of scariest rides the attraction has to offer in the dark.

Of course things will probably run very differently this year for obvious reasons but tickets are available to pre-order on their website now.

Pumpkin picking

Over recent years, pick your own places have grown in popularity. Of course they are the the ideal spot for all those perfect Instagram shots but aside from that they are a lot of fun.

Our local PYO place is fairly local and has become an annual Autumn event for the last few years.

For us it’s the pumpkins that draw us there. They have just about every variety you could possibly ever want. Your traditional orange pumpkins are grown in masses. But it is the unique colours and variations that really excite the children most. Did you know that they had white ones, blue pumpkins and gross green bumpy ones? Well they do and they are brilliant!

Although this one may not be local to you, there are plenty just like it throughout the UK.

More ideas for beautiful autumn places to visit

There are plenty of other amazing places you can go and things you can do this autumn.

• National Trust properties – Lots of these sites are beautiful all year round but in Autumn they can be spectacular. Often there are events running during the season to.
• Local farms – A farm is always a good day out for the family but they will usually have lots of Halloween/autumn fun to take part in
• Forest walks – What better way to take in all the colours of autumn than taking a walk in your local forest.
• Firework displays – This is the most autumn thing you can do, snuggled up in cosy hats and gloves and watching the sky light up. Hopefully some displays will be allowed to take place this year.
