My thoughts on turning 29

28 July 2020 Comments : 16

So yeah, today is my 29th birthday. The last year of my twenties. Quite frankly I find that terrifying. It felt right to take a look back at my 28th year though and reflect on my final year in the twenties.

I used to write these kinds of reflection posts every year but I skipped a year last year. I’m not sure why. That means the last one I wrote was a couple of years ago just before I turned 27. I was looking back at my 26th year on this planet and I’ll be honest I wasn’t in a great place at the time of writing that. I didn’t want that to be the last birthday reflection post so I’m bringing them back. Plus now feels like a good time to reflect and think ahead.

28 has been a mixed bag. From my birthday last year up to the U.K. lockdown things were great. But then obviously that’s been the same for pretty much everyone! In those 7-8 months after my birthday we did so much. Wedding planning went full steam ahead, we had lots of little U.K adventures including a Brighton Pride trip and two London trips and things just felt good. Of course the pandemic messed up a lot of things. I should have been 4 days away from getting married right now but instead we now have just over a year to wait thanks to having to postpone. It’s tough because the wedding was pretty much all planned out. Then of course there’s not been any adventures for a while either.

Basically there’s been two halves to my 28th year. I really fantastic one and a not so great one. It is what it is though and I know I’m not the only one feeling like this.

So 29…it feels a little scary. Entering the last year of my twenties as the world finds its new normal and the U.K. eases restrictions. I can’t make plans for this final year in my twenties because everything is so uncertain right now. At least I know I’ll kick off being 30 with a bang because 3 weeks after my 30th birthday I’ll finally be getting married!

I’m a planner and it this point my head would usually be filled with ideas and dreams for the year ahead but I kind of don’t want to get my hopes up too much if that makes sense. So I’m slowly learning to take things one day at time in the constantly changing situation.

I don’t want this post to seem downhearted but at the same time I wanted to be honest. I’ll bring a little cheer back though! Here are some highlights from my 28th year on this big planet.

  1. We’ve had lots of little adventures from Brighton Pride to two London visits. We even squeezed in an overnight stay in York just before my birthday. Little adventures are my favourite thing!
  2. I finally got around to getting another tattoo and I think it’s my favourite one to date. Stitch with a pumpkin combining my love of Disney, my favourite character and my love of Halloween. It’s just perfect!
  3. I became and auntie again to a very cute little nephew.
  4. I stepped out of my comfort zone and did my first ever fashion post on this blog.
  5. Speaking of blogging I’ve worked really hard on my blog over the past year and it’s finally paying off a little!
  6. I dyed my hair pink then went super blonde! I did the typical pink lockdown hair then went super blonde as soon as I was allowed back at the hairdressers. Pink hair was really fun though.

So on the whole 28 hasn’t been all that bad. All things and a global pandemic considered! Here’s to 29 and making the most of my this final year of my twenties.

I LOVE your Stitch tattoo! It’s so beautiful! I know what you mean about it feeling scary – I turn 29 next year and I’m terrified! It’s certainly been a difficult year for us all and I’m so gutted for you that you had to postpone your wedding. On the bright side, it will be even more amazing when you finally do tie the knot! Belated happy birthday to you and I hope you had a lovely time 🙂 x x
