Disney World’s Animal Kingdom: 2018 photos #3

6 September 2019 Leave a Comment

We took a lot of beautiful photos on our 2018 Florida holiday that are just sat on the computer so I thought I’d share them with you so they can be seen in all their glory and appreciated by everyone! There are a lot of photos so there’s going to be a fair few posts like this, I’m going to aim to do one a week until I’m out of photos to share! I’ll be doing one park at a time so I’m going to start with Animal Kingdom. Hope you enjoy this series.
The next installment of the Animal Kingdom section of this series is a look at the park at night. This trip was the first time we got to experience Animal Kingdom at night and it was honestly one of the highlights of the holiday. The park is very beautiful during the day but at night it’s just out of this world. As soon as the sun starts to set the park takes on a whole different feel and it’s amazing.
Everything just looks a little bit more beautiful in the glow of the setting sun and when that’s completely gone the park is lit up by a mass of string fairy lights and lamps and it honestly feel so magical. I remember walking around just been in awe of everything.
The stadium for Rivers of Light is right in front of Expedition Everest and just look how amazing it looks with all the fairy lights and the last bit of sun hitting the top if the mountain. We chose not to watch Rivers of Light instead opting to fit in more night time experiences and I’m so glad we chose to do that. We actually rode Expedition Everest in the dark and it’s already one of my favourite Disney rides but it’s so good in the dark! I’m not a big fan of lift hills on rides and I usually won’t look out over the sides but when you’ve got the whole of Animal Kingdom lit up underneath you it’s different so I took a good look over the side and embraced the stunning view.
Another fantastic experience we had (although we didn’t get any photos) was a sunset safari. We’d been on Kilimanjaro Safari’s earlier in the day but the sunset version was incredible. There were more animals out as it had started to cool down a little and of course there was the glorious sky as a backdrop to it all.
Another night experience at the park is the Tree of Life Nighttime Awakenings. A show that runs around every 10 minutes when it gets dark to park closing. The most amazing, colourful projections are cast onto the Tree of Life. We actually thought we were going to miss this as we wanted to beat the closing time crowds out of the park and the website had stated a late starting time for the show so we decided to walk past the tree just to get some photos of it lit up on our way out. As we stood there snapping away it was announced the the Tree of Life Awakening was about to start (earlier than we thought), there was hardly anyone around and because we’d gone just to take photos we were right at the front. It just perfectly ended what was one of my favourite days of the holiday and it felt like an extra piece of magic that we managed to catch the show and yes I cried!
I hope you enjoyed my photo diary of Animal Kingdom at night. I have posts coming up from all 6 Disney World parks as well as Universal Resort’s 3 parks, Disney Spring and Discovery Cove. I’m planning on sharing one photo diary a week. We vlogged our whole Florida 2018 holiday so I highly recommend checking those videos out too.
