Pastors and ministry workers follow noble careers. But they often struggle to manage their family life. If you pursue a church leadership role, you will probably understand the tussle. There’s always another sermon to preach, another disciple to make, and another person to guide. You may end up consumed by your role with no time for personal obligations when you let your work take the front seat. However, neglecting your loved ones is the last thing you should do because taking care of them is a part of your responsibility. Failing to do it can affect your work as much as your personal life. Here are some recommendations to handle ministry and family like a pro.

Think quality, not numbers
Any professional should look for a work-life balance, and church leaders are no exception. But check the quality, not numbers when it comes to defining the time you give to each role. Chasing numbers is unrealistic as you cannot practically give 40 hours to your loved ones if you give the same number to the church. But you can compensate for it with quality, so do your bit to make every moment with your loved ones special.
Bring ministry and family to one place
Bringing ministry and family to one place is perhaps the easiest way to balance both. Consider getting your loved one to the church whenever possible. You can even take them for volunteering and tours so that they can see your mission from up close. They may find their calling and passion in your mission and embrace the same goals. The best part is that you get a great team of cheerleaders and supporters at home.
Strengthen your skills
You can balance both roles better by strengthening your skills as a church leader and a family man. The good thing is that you can easily do both. Enrolling in a disciple training program covers you on the professional front. But personally, you need to learn from experience and be empathic enough to understand the needs of your partner and kids. Either way, you become better in the roles and achieve more with less.
Eliminate distractions
You should be present and mindful, whether you are at home or in the church. The best way to do it is by eliminating distractions and focusing on the present moment. Avoid your phone and prioritize the tasks at hand and the people you are with because they deserve all the attention. Ditching distractions also make you stress-free, so you must do it sooner than later.
Remember special occasions
A church leadership role often entails a hefty workload and multiple interactions in the ministry. You may end up forgetting important dates and occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, school events, and family ceremonies. Although you want to do your best for your loved ones, forgetting special occasions can hurt them. Set reminders, write dates, and do whatever you can to remember things. Plan special surprises to commemorate these events. Balancing ministry and family need not be challenging, provided you are committed to giving your best in both roles. Try these simple strategies to ace as a church leader, partner, and parent.
