Happy List: August 2022

5 September 2022 Leave a Comment

Look at me getting yet another Happy List post out on time, it’s a miracle! Well actually it’s not, it’s called having time off work to actually be able to dedicate time to this little space. Unfortunately when this goes live though I am back at work after a wonderful six weeks off. There’s not a single part of me that wanted to return and I’d much rather be spending my days blogging but needs must. Anyway, we’re not here to discuss work so let’s take a look back at my jam packed August!

August was a full on month with lots of amazing things however it wasn’t all great news and in all honesty I could have done with a couple of more weeks in the month to reset and recharge. For most of the month I was a lot of pain with my coccyx which then unfortunately turned into a cyst. When I say I have never known pain like it I am not exaggerating. I actually ended up in A&E with it and surgery was on the cards. Touch wood though it seems to have fixed itself (with the help of antibiotics and painkillers). I hope I never have to experience that again.

Anyway, onto the brighter, happier stuff. Here’s what I got up to in August.

1. We had a lovely little minibreak down south. Josh’s gran lives in Littlehampton so we headed down there for a few days to enjoy the south east coast. It was bloody lovely and we spent a lot of time walking on the beach and pub hopping. It was perfect! The lovely weather definitely helped but it really is a beautiful part of the U.K.

2. When we got back from our Littlehampton trip we were blessed with another small heatwave so I spent the whole week sat in the garden reading. It was bliss. We also decided to host a little BBQ get-together with our mums. It’s not often we have people over as we only have a small house, it’s not really made for hosting. Our garden on the other hand is huge so BBQ’s and outdoor dining are always welcome! It was nice to get the mums together too. Plus I really enjoy hosting so I was in my element.

3. We watched the final ever episode of Better Call Saul, I am absolutely gutted that it’s over and that the whole Breaking Bad franchise is done. It was made better by the huge box of Cinnabon buns we had though which clearly had to be done for the final. If you know, you know!

4. It wouldn’t be a Happy List recently without showing you my nails would it?! I’ve been having my nails done regularly now since May. I was a lifelong nail biter and this year I’ve finally managed to quit. I can’t actually believe these are my natural nails. I went for one last bright set before the summer is over. I’m not going to lie, I’m very excited for more autumnal designs.

5. We celebrated our first wedding anniversary this month although I have to use the term celebrate loosely as you know that A&E trip I mentioned above, well that was actually on our first wedding anniversary. There’s nothing less romantic than a hospital on a Sunday morning haha. However I did get seen to really quickly and because I narrowly avoided surgery we were back home for lunch time. We obviously just had to have a quiet day but we did order some yummy Indian food from our favourite restaurant.

6. For our anniversary Josh surprised me with a trip to Liverpool. Considering we went the day after I was in hospital it’s a miracle the trip happened but I can’t think of a better place to rest and recover than in my favourite city. We did actually manage to get a lot done just at a much slower pace than usual. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you’ll know how much I love our breaks in Liverpool. We’ve been going every year for 12 years now and it’s where we got engaged and where we had our minimoon.

So that was August, all in all it was pretty great apart from the health issues. I’m really excited for the next few months as we’re heading into my favourite part of the year. I’ve made myself a little list of all the things I’m looking forward to for the rest of the year which has certainly helped with the back to work blues.

What did you get up to in August? Let me know in the comments!
