10 themed night in ideas for the lockdown

Hi everyone, it’s Lauren here from Wool of the King and I’m really excited to be writing for Lauren’s blog! Since we have had lockdown, after lockdown recently with messages to stay at home, I like to have things to look forward to still. I really love going out and doing things so I try to keep doing things even when we have to stay at home. One thing I have loved doing over the various lockdowns is to have themed nights in. This way, there I’ve had something to look forward to and plan. I am going to be sharing my favourite ideas of a themed lockdown night in with you.

Festival themed nights

Back in May, I was supposed to be going to Bournemouth 7s festival but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it had to be cancelled. I was living with my parents at the time so I planned a festival themed party for the 3 of us instead. It wasn’t the same as gong out to a festival obviously, but planning for that took my mind off of how gutted I was that the festival had been cancelled. Fancy dress nights

I had a lockdown for my 21^st birthday last year, and I was trying to find ways to make it a bit different from just normal drinks in the house, so I chose to go with fancy dress. As we couldn’t really go out and get anything it was kind of just whatever we could find in the house to wear. It was still really fun though and a good memory even though we were locked down.

Dress as each other

If you live with a few other people like I do at university, it could be fun to try and dress up as other members of your house. It’s just a bit of a laugh that can cheer people up in lockdown. Even if your housemates or family don’t participate, it can still be likely to make them laugh!

Pick a cuisine and use that as your theme

It can be really fun to pick your favourite cuisine and make a theme out of that. For example, I have had Italian themed nights where we have done pizza making and drunk prosecco. I don’t know about you, but in lockdown the things that mainly get me through are looking forward to nice meals and deliveries! The best part about this is that you can use this several times with lots of cuisines and you can pick any you like.

Recreate your favourite holiday

This can be similar to point 4. If you have been to a place that you loved and loved the food and atmosphere there, you could try and recreate this at home. One of my favourite holidays was going to Sorrento, where I had lots of pizza and limoncello, so I would get these things in to remind me of that trip away if I was going to have a themed night like this. Where was your favourite place to travel to and could you try and recreate this at home?

Cocktail and mocktail making

Again, this is another way to change up a normal drinks evening and even if you don’t drink alcohol, mocktail making could be really fun. I love going out for cocktails and there are so many easy cocktail recipes you can try at home. Check out my top 5 cocktails you should try at home.

Use your favourite show or film to make a theme

Are you a really big fan of Disney or Harry Potter? You could use your favourite shows or films to create themed nights at home. Even if you just have a Harry Potter marathon, or you could try and incorporate it into a theme in other ways. I haven’t tried this one but I think it could be really fun. My favourite TV show is RuPaul’s Drag Race and I am just imagining the ways I could use this as a theme. Dress up as a drag queen? Imagine!

School themed night

In the November lockdown, my housemates and I had a school disco themed night and it was so much fun. We made the kitchen into a tuck shop and I made a playlist, which if I do say so myself, was iconic. It was just so funny and nostalgic.

Pick an era and make a theme

A lot of people will have 80s night as a party theme and there’s no reason why you couldn’t do this at home with just your household. Again, with this you could pick several eras for a few different occasions.

Colour theme

If you just wanted a simple themed night and didn’t want to go to too much trouble, you could just go with a colour theme. It still makes a normal night in a little bit different and you won’t have to worry too much about what you’re going to wear. My friends and I had a Zoom quiz where we all had to wear pink so I literally piled on every pink thing I had. They could only see my face though.
