How to host the perfect Bonfire Night party

I love Bonfire Night . It’s a night of gorgeous colours, snuggly blankets and tasty food. With so many different fireworks to choose from, it can be hard to remember the other essentials to make your Bonfire Night perfect. There are so many things you can include to make the night memorable and have your family talking about it all year! Here are my favourite Bonfire Night essentials to make your night perfect!

Plenty of snuggly blankets

During the winter months, the temperature can drop dramatically as the night draws in. When you’re having your fireworks night, make sure you have lots of snuggly blankets at hand, especially if you have lots of children at your event. Kids get cold quickly, and blankets will warm them up in no time! Put a cute wire basket by your door, so your blankets are accessible after the fireworks show. There’s nothing better than picking up a blanket and cuddling with a film on after a chilly few hours outside! If you keep them close by, you can also pick them up if you’re cold while watching the fireworks. If you don’t have chairs, picnic blankets are useful essentials if the ground is damp and cold. 

Sparklers & colourful fireworks

Bonfire Night isn’t complete without an array of fireworks and sparklers for afterwards. You don’t need to spend a bomb on fireworks for your show to be amazing. Choose a range of different fireworks as it’ll keep your guests entertained. If there are children, you may want to avoid the loud booming fireworks as it could scare them. Make sure you’re careful with pets as well. Dogs and cats can get frightened by the noise. We like to purchase a family box as the fireworks are suitable for our garden size, there’s an acceptable amount in the box, and they don’t scare children. When it comes to sparklers, we get a few packs to play with! To make your party even better, try to create light pictures with the sparklers! 

Knitted jumpers & wooly hats

November is a chilly month, and winter isn’t complete without a knitted jumper. Not only will it keep you warm, but it can protect your arms from any embers that spark off the firepit or sparkers. If you’re feeling sentimental, you could get all your guests to wear matching jumpers! It would look great in photos! Hats and gloves are important too, especially for young children.

Don’t forget the firepit!

My parents are obsessed with the man pit we have in our garden. It’s a lovely area for us to sit around, spend quality time together and watch the fireworks. Whether you have a built-in firepit or a metal man pit, I’d recommend lighting a fire to sit around on bonfire night. It’s warm and the perfect place to toast your marshmallows! You can find lots of affordable firepits on Amazon, or you could build your own as a pre-bonfire night project! If you don’t want a fire pit, you could always have a BBQ blazing. You could have a BBQ for your guests to enjoy while watching the fireworks!

Warm, delicious food

No fireworks night is complete without warm, cosy food. My go-to Bonfire Night foods are toad in the hole, burgers done on the BBQ or hotdogs with chips. These are easy dishes, filling and warm. They will keep your guests toasty and full. When you’re making your Bonfire Night dinner, make sure it’s a hearty meal. You want to be cooking BBQ food or winter crockpot meals as this will be good for your guests, means less work for you, and everyone can enjoy it! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to cook a full 3-course meal. As long as your dish is warm and filling, your night will be perfect, and your guests will be happy!

Sweet treats for dessert

No event is complete without the sweet treats after dinner. Smores, toffee apples and sticky toffee pudding are classic Bonfire Night desserts for you to enjoy. If you’re in the baking mood, you could bake some Bonfire Night cupcakes, an apple crumble, or a pumpkin spiced treat! There are so many delicious desserts for you to try. If you’re unsure, autumn flavours include pumpkin spiced, caramel and toffee, green apple and ginger! You could use a recipe from Pinterest, or develop your own to try out! 

Surround yourself with people you love

The company you choose to invite can make or break any event. Deciding on whether you want close family only or to make your Bonfire Night a big party can be a difficult choice. Whatever you choose, make sure you’re surrounded by the people you love. Your night should be filled with love and happiness. Anyone that is going to jeopardise that shouldn’t be invited. Make sure you get your guests to confirm they’re coming so you know how much food to prepare and how many sparklers to have at hand! You could always ask each guest to bring a firework, so your display becomes more of a show!

The right protection

If you’re handling fireworks or sparklers, it may be wise to wear thick protective gloves when lighting the fuses. If children are handling sparklers, make sure they’re wearing protection on their hands too. When using sparklers, we have a bucket filled with water ready to put in used sparklers and to have close if there are burns or fires catching. Fireworks are dangerous, so you need to be careful when handling them, otherwise, it could result in injury. Make sure you read the back of the box carefully before lighting anything and make sure you and your guest stand well back. 

Fireworks night is such a magical experience, and all of these ways can make it a little more special. For me, the food and the family are what makes Bonfire Night memorable.
