5 positives I’ve found in the lockdown

20 April 2020 Comments : 16

The U.K. has at least another 3 weeks of lockdown to go, we’ve got 4 behind us so in order to bring a bit more positivity to the situation I’ve been thinking of some happier things I’m taking from this lockdown.
5 positive things to happen during lockdownI just wanted to start by saying this isn’t me burying my head in the sand and ignoring what’s going off. I’m specifically talking about the positives of being at home and not been able to go anywhere!

A better balance

I wouldn’t say I have a particularly hard job in normal circumstances but I do think it’s a job not many people could do. I am actually still in work, I do two weeks working at home and one week in work but I cannot tell you how grateful I am for my work at home weeks. The situation at work at the moment is quite stressful and the kind of children I work with means social distancing doesn’t exist. However I am loving my work from home weeks. I love that I can have a bit more freedom to structure my day how I want, take breaks when I want and have a better balance between working and doing other things. I’m genuinely enjoying the slower pace to life and just having more time to myself. It’s a very welcome change to the monotonous routine of a normal working week.

Reading

I’ve done so much reading since the start of the lockdown. It’s helped that the weather has been nice because one of my favourite things to do is sit in the garden and read. I’m now on my sixth book though since the lockdown started and I’m loving reading. I’ve reading some fantastic books so far this year and even though I don’t write reviews on here anymore I have started doing mini book reviews over on my Instagram. Lets see how many more books I can get through before the lockdown is over. If you’re looking for some book recommendation then you should check out my post on 21 books you need to read while social distancing.

Being outdoors

Again with all the lovely weather we’ve been having I have been spending a lot of time outdoors. We’re extremely lucky as we have a huge garden and I’ve been loving spending my days sat in it. We’ve also been going on walks as our daily exercise and today I’m starting Couch to 5K because those lockdown snacks are starting to show. It’s so nice being outdoors and everything seems much quieter too which I love. I tend to see quite a few other people when I’m out but everyone seems to be sticking to the rules and everyone is super friendly with big smiles and hellos which is really nice. I’m really hoping to stick to running as I started last spring but gave up when the weather started to get cooler which is why I’ve decided to do Couch to 5K in the hopes it helps me build a good routine.

Disney+

The Disney streaming service couldn’t have been released in the U.K. at a better time could it? While I’ve being sticking to a routine during the day to make sure I’m staying productive, at night I’ve been loving watching Disney+. As you know Josh and I are huge Disney fans and we’re all the shows and movies on there. We’re especially loving The Imagineering Story but it’s making me miss Disney World so much. If you’re unsure what to start watching on there then check out my post on 10 things to watch on Disney+ right now.

Blogging

Having a lot more time to blog has really been the best feeling. I often struggle to find time to blog as much as I’d like and do all the other things that go alongside such as promoting my content and making pins for Pinterest. At the moment though that’s not an issue and I have to say I think I’ve produced some great content that I’m really proud of during this lockdown. I’ve also had more time to work on my Pinterest too though that’s still an area I’m learning about. This week something pretty big is happening with my blog. I’ve had this little space for 9 years now and for most of that time it’s only ever been a hobby and it still mainly is. I’ve been lucky enough over the last year though to make a little bit of money from my blog and that’s something I’d really like to build up. So this week I’m finally going self hosted! After 9 years on Blogger I’m finally taking the leap to fully owning this little blog and it’s super exciting!
So in all honesty I haven’t really struggled with the lockdown. I’m working hard on my blog and making the most of the beautiful weather. Finding the positives amongst the general doom and gloom is helping, I don’t watch the news anymore and I tend to just ignore any negativity on social media and its working well for me. That’s not to say that if you are struggling it’s wrong, we all deal with things differently.
How are you finding the lockdown? What positive things are you taking from it? Tell me in the comments.

Excellent post! Couldnt agree more about the slower pace helping just recharge for a bit. I’m in a similar job and work with adults with special needs and it’s not a usual desk job so it’s all be a bit weird. Thank you for sharing the other positives, good to remain positive. Also same with you on the reading I just cant stop!! Emma x

Having more time to read, blog and watch Disney Plus are definitely some of the positives of lockdown! I rarely get the chance to do those things when I’m working full time!

I must admit I’m the same in that I’ve found a lot more balance with this whole situation. The fact I’m WFH means I no longer have a 40 minute commute each way which has freed up more time for me to get my housework done and to do a workout every day, both of which I was struggling to fit in! It’s also meant I’ve had more time to get on with blogging too, so I’m quite glad to have a bit of extra time at the moment even if it’s not in the best circumstances!

I’m so glad of the extra time. Obviously I would prefer the circumstances to be much better but I wish having more free time could be a thing! x

I came to this post after you’d commented on my Lockdown Silver Linings post, so many of your positives are the same as mine. I’m loving having some more time for my family and being able to enjoy our garden with all the recent glorious weather. I think your point about a better balance is definitely something I’m grateful for, whatever kind of new normal we end up with. Great post! Lisa x

All hail disney +!! I’ve been really loving catching up with star wars and MCU as well as my old Disney favourites- monsters inc for the win!!! I’ve not had this much time to read in ages and I feel like my brain is so much more stimulated now in this slightly odd time than it was before weirdly!!! Lovely post as always and I’m glad you’re staying happy and occupied and looking after yourself xx

I love that you’ve found some positives and that you’re sharing them with us! It’s made me consider some of my own! I’m definitely connecting with people more even if it is online! I’m also reading more and doing art which I never normally squeeze in. I also, like you, go outside to the park way more than I used to which is way more mindful than rushing to work or the shops!
