Having read another Eloise Williams book, Gaslight at the end of last year (I took a break from book reviewing last year so I’m afraid there’s no review, but it is a good book!) I decided it was time to give Seaglass a go as it’d been sitting on my to-be-read pile for a little while. I was after a simple read after the previous book and this fit the bill perfectly.
Lark’s life is crumbling apart when she shares an overheard conversation with her sister, their mother is dying. Since that conversation her sister has refused to speak and her parents have decided they all need a holiday, it’s the last thing Lark needs. When they arrive at the caravan site Lark keeps seeing a strange girl in a green dress, a girl her sister has become close friends with but when a local women tells her that the girls visits to take away sisters Lark must find out who she is and why she’s trying to take her sister.
Whilst being a relatively easy read, this book was thoroughly enjoyable, the girl in the green dress was an interesting supernatural twist to the story but I also liked that a young adult novel was tackling other themes too (I don’t want to say too much as I like to try and keep my reviews spoiler free). I raced through this book in just a couple of days and would recommend it both for it’s target audience of young adults as well as adults too. I hope Eloise Williams writes a new book soon as I’ve loved her previous two novels so would definitely love to read more!
