Keeping Your Travel Gear Organised All Year Round

If you’re the kind of person who likes to travel regularly, then getting your belongings into order can pay dividends. With the right system and habits, you’ll never have to stress about getting your luggage ready before you head out – it’ll already be waiting for you!

So, how do we get those essential items organised?

Assessing Your Travel Gear Inventory

The first step should be to review your inventory. This should be not just a one-off process, but a recurring one. Think about the items you’d like to keep and the items that are beginning to show their age. If you have a budget for replacements, then you can discard the ageing stuff before it fails on you.

Optimal Storage Solutions for Small Spaces

If you don’t have much in the way of storage space, then it might be difficult to know where to keep all of your excess baggage. In most cases, however, smaller living spaces can accommodate a surprising amount. All that’s required is a little creativity. Under-the-bed storage, complete with vacuum-sealed bags, can be enormously useful. You might also wall-mount a shallow cupboard behind a door, for simple vertical storage of long items, like skis and fishing rods.

Seasonal Rotation of Travel Items

There are certain travel items that you’ll only be using at certain times of the year. When these items are not going to be used, it’s worth putting them into long-term storage. For example, you might vacuum-seal your collection of Hawaiian-style shirts and put them in the loft during winter. On the other hand, it’s the heavy clothing you wear during winter that’s more likely to take up excess space, since, by definition, it’s bulkier.

Utilising Custom Storage Solutions

In some cases, you might seek to build a custom unit yourself or have it built for you by a specialist company. This will eliminate wasted space around corners, and in awkward spaces, like under the stairs, and beneath a sloped roof.

Investing in custom storage solutions can significantly enhance the functionality and organisation of your space. This way, you can have a storage solution that precisely fits your needs.

Maintaining Your Travel Gear

In some cases, your travel items will require maintenance between trips. For example, if you’re in the habit of taking jewellery with you, you might periodically take it to a jeweller for care and attention. Arguably most important are the cases you carry everything in – if a strap fails, or one of the walls comes loose, then you’ll have a very awkward travel experience. Get these things patched up the moment you come back from holiday – that way, you’ll know the item will be ready for your next trip!
