December Happy Lists are always weird ones to write. It’s usually my favourite month to look back on and there’s usually a lot to talk about but doing it in a brand new year always feels a bit odd! Nonetheless, let’s take a look back at December shall we?!

This Happy List is a little later than I would usually publish them, so it definitely feels weird that everything is still a little bit festive over here but I didn’t want to miss a month so we’re just going with it! It’s late because I’ve been on holiday and I had work to do between Christmas and New Year so the blog had to be put on hold for a bit!
Anyway, December was a fun, festive and busy month, so let’s look at what went on!
1. My favourite weekend of the year is when we put the Christmas decorations up. So that first week in December we went full-on festive. Decorations went up, the Baileys was opened and Christmas jumpers and pj’s made an appearance. I just love the run-up to Christmas so much and as soon as December 1st hits then I go into elf mode!
2. December may have had some wet and windy weather but we were also blessed with some of the most beautiful and perfect winter weather too. Bright frosty mornings and stunning sunsets really lifted my mood and made for some very pretty photos.
3. I always have an annual father and daughter day out in December with my Dad and for the past few years, we’ve been to Castle Howard because their displays are just out of this world. We were going to try somewhere different this year but when we heard the theme was Christmas in Neverland we knew we had to go. It actually snowed a little bit on the day we went and it just made everything look even more magical.
3. I also had a festive day out with my mum and her partner. We were excited to see that Leeds Christmas Market had made a return so decided to go and check it out. The market was probably the worst Christmas market I’ve ever been to and nothing like it used to be but we still had a really nice time together which is all that matters.
4. December is always an extremely busy month work-wise for my husband so when he said there was nothing he wanted for Christmas, I decided to book us a night away as his present instead so he could properly unwind and we could spend some time together. We stayed in a cute little cottage in Hebden Bridge which had a hot tub in the garden and it was absolutely perfect. Super relaxing and the perfect pre-Christmas getaway.
5. Christmas was fairly quiet. We always keep Christmas dinner for just us two and then usually spend the evening with family. I always find Christmas Day a bit of an anti-climax if I’m honest. I’m all about the run-up to Christmas instead! We both had to get back to work on Boxing Day with a holiday coming up. It was my first Christmas being self-employed so I didn’t want to take my foot off the pedal too much but it definitely showed me that I’ll be working towards having a proper Christmas break in the future.
Overall December was a really lovely month. I always feel a bit sad when Christmas is over and I’m certainly not a huge fan of January but I have some amazing things to look forward to in 2024!
How was December for you? What did you get up to? Let me know in the comments!
