Liverpool: August 2020

26 August 2020 Comments : 16

It’s been a very long time since I did a photo diary style post on here but last week we went to Liverpool for a few nights and seen as it happens to be one of my absolute favourite places in the world I thought I would share some photos from our trip. As well as a bit about what we got up to.

Albert dock Liverpool

This trip actually marked 10 consecutive years of visiting Liverpool together. My fiance had been before but we took our first trip to the city in 2010. We first went to do all the Beatles related stuff and ended up just absolutely falling in love with the city. Since then we’ve been every single year whether it’s just for the day or for a longer trip.

If you cared to dive back into the archives of this blog you’ll find various, rather terrible, posts about Liverpool dating right back from 2011 when this blog started!

Despite visiting the city so much, sometimes multiple times a year, it still captures my heart every time I visit. I don’t think I’ll ever be bored of it. We’re already considering a Christmas trip there too for this year!

I think because we know the city so well now and we’ve done all the touristy stuff, it’s just a really relaxing break for us now which I love. That’s not to say we still don’t do lots of stuff or revisit the tourist stuff every now and then because we do!

So on to this trip. This was actually in place of our mini moon. We were supposed to get married on the 1st August and a week later we had a mini moon arranged for Liverpool and York. Two very special places to us and our relationship. If you didn’t know, we actually got engaged in Liverpool! Since we had to postpone our wedding though the mini moon also got pushed back to next year, so we booked a super cheap, last minute trip instead.

On our first day we actually headed to a cat cafe. We’ve been before and I’ve even wrote a review on the Liverpool Cat Cafe. We didn’t know what it would be like due to all the new restrictions in place but it was still a really lovely experience! And a great way to spend an hour if you’re a crazy cat lady like me!

We also went for a wander around the docks which is one of my absolute favourite things to do in Liverpool. It really helped that it was a beautiful, sunny afternoon too.

On our second day we headed to the World Museum. We’ve been a few times now but it’s a free museum and there’s so much to see in there. It’s definitely a great way to spend a few hours.

We then did a little bit of shopping as I wanted to pick up the Starbucks ‘you are here’ Liverpool mug to mark 10 years of visiting the city. The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing and having a couple of drinks. We’d normally head to The Cavern but it was closed. It was definitely odd to visit Liverpool and not visit The Cavern. We love that place and the uncertainty of its future thanks to the pandemic is really sad.

On our last day in Liverpool we visited the Linda McCartney Retrospective at the Walker Art Gallery. Linda’s photography was amazing so it was really good to see a whole exhibition on it.

It was so great to get away for a few days. After everything that’s happened this year and with working throughout lockdown and postponing the wedding and mini moon it was nice to spend some time together in our favourite place.

I applied for John Moores university and I’ve always said that if I’d have ended up going there I would never have moved away from the city!

What a great diary update of a very deserving city. Never been but I’ve always wanted to go both to the Cavern and to Anfield. Sad to see such uncertainty over Cavern and so many other music venues which have hosted some of the best over so many years. Would love to see Liverpool someday soon!

I’m so glad I’m not alone in falling in love with Liverpool. I only went in 2018 for the first time and I was blown away. It was an instant love affair. We went back last year with my Beatles mad Dad and planning another visit to do the Linda McCartney exhibition.

Great post, love the pictures x

I have always wanted to visit Liverpool; something about the docks and boats has always fascinated me, as well as the simple beauty of the city. The Cat Cafe sounds interesting!
Thanks so much for sharing some of the joys of this city.
