There aren’t too many periods of a person’s life better than their student days. This is the chance to step out into the world on your own, push yourself, secure a future, and have a good time at the same time. What can compare? Of course, while there’s plenty to love about attending university, it’s not as if it’ll automatically have such a beneficial impact on your life. You’ve got to make that happen. In this post, I look at just a few ways how new students can ensure that their university experience is all that it can be.
Dream big
First, let’s think about your attitude. If you’re going to make the most of this unique experience, then it’s important that you’ve really got a sense of all the possibilities that it’ll bring your way. Some people go to university because they think they should, others because it’s something they really want to do. Whatever your reason for going is, be sure to commit fully to the experience. You’ll never have an opportunity like this again, so go into it with optimism and hope. That sense of wonder will carry you to great heights.
The right course
Of course, while you can always find ways to have a great time at university, you’ll find it much easier if you’re studying on a course that you really want to do, and if you’re at a university that excites you. Sometimes it’s easy to take the safest option that’s on offer, but it can be worthwhile to push yourself. If you want to attend a university that’s on the other side of the country, then don’t let the distance put you off. If the atmosphere of the university feels right to you, then go with it.
Living arrangements
The course that you’re studying is one half of your student experience. The other half is dominated by your living arrangements. You’ll find it much easier to enjoy all that university brings if you’re living in a space that you like, with people that you like. If you’re looking for comfortable, high-quality student accommodation, then click here. Living in the right place is important for many reasons, and can even make or break the overall experience. Get it right, and you’ll have a comfortable, spacious space living with people that you like — and that’s a solid foundation for having an awesome time.
Push yourself
Finally, be sure to push yourself. There are just so many opportunities you can take advantage of when you’re at university. Indeed, there’ll be opportunities that you’ve never had before, and likely never will again. If there’s an extracurricular activity that you’re interested in, then be sure to give it a go. This might require that you push yourself a little, but push away. You’ll always be rewarded by stepping out of your comfort zone a little, and you never know what it might lead to. Getting involved with new activities and projects is a great way to make friends too.
I loved my time at university and I definitely look back on it as one of the best times of my life. Even after all these year I think of it fondly as miss it.
What are your thoughts on university? Let me know in the comment!

One of the most important tips is pushing yourself. This is such an exciting time in your life and you’re presented with so many unique opportunities that you may never get back. I loved my college years and they really shaped my young adult life
Yes definitely. I graduated 7 years ago now but I still think about that time in my life a lot.
I’m starting uni in September – I’m so excited but also very nervous now that it’s getting closer and closer😨 Loved this post tho xx
Thank you! It’s totally normal to feel nervous, you’ll have a great time though!
While this is typically all really relevant, covid has really changed the uni experience this year. As a student myself, I haven’t set foot on campus this year and I haven’t seen any of my course mates face to face. I hope that next year I do get to push myself and try a new activity. Really great post.
I’m sorry that’s been your uni experience. I can’t imagine going to university now because it must be so different. With that been said this is a guest post written by a current university student so I think everyone’s experiences have been very different.
