The best autumn traditions for adults

12 October 2021 Comments : 12

Autumn goes hand in hand with many comforting things which is why it’s my favourite season. You guys know by now how much I love autumn, it’s not just a season for kids to have fun. Here are some fantastic autumn traditions for adults to enjoy.

Fall traditions for adults

Stock up on candles

I love burning candles all year round but autumn scents are my favourite. The fresh scents are exchanged for warming, spicy fragrances and I love it! Anything with cinnamon or pumpkin is the best. It can be hard to find candles that don’t cost the earth while having a great scent through but I’ve find that many candles from TK Maxx, B&M and Home Bargains are really cheap and smell amazing. Aldi often get candles in as part of their special buys too so it’s worth keeping an eye out in there too.

Grab some blankets

The big cosy blankets come out of storage. I love nothing more on a cold evening than wrapping up in a super soft blanket on the sofa. Honestly is there anything better when it’s cold outside than feeling all cosy in your home? I have a huge blanket that I usually end up sharing with my cats. It was really cheap at Primark. Asda, Matalan, The Range and B&M also do really nice quality but budget friendly blankets too.

Scare yourself with a spooky book

One of my favourite things to do on an evening is read a good scary book, autumn is the absolute perfect time for this. Horror and thriller books were just made to be read at this time of year. Luckily horror and thriller books also happen to be some of my favourite genres too so I’m always on the look out for new books to scare myself with.

Turn off the lights and watch a horror movie

Horror films are my favourite and I watch them all year round but I get extra excited about turning the lights off and finding a good scary film in autumn. I’m already on the look out for good films to watch over Halloween. If you need a good horror movie to watch this year then I’ve done a round up of my 10 favourite horror movies guaranteed to scare you.

Fairy lights everywhere

There’s nothing more comforting than the glow of fairy lights as the evenings start to get darker earlier. Candles and fairy lights create the perfect warm and homely ambience. Try getting a bit creative and make a feature out of your fairy lights. Bottle lights are perfect for this and make your display seem a bit more grown up.

Sip on a mug of chocolate

I love finishing off an evening with a hot chocolate and marshmallows and the colder evenings definitely call for it! Seen as these are traditions for adults then way not add a touch of Baileys to your hot chocolate for the most perfect, indulgent drink.

Carve a pumpkin

How can you not at Halloween? My fiance is usually in charge of this as he’s far more creative than me. I’m excited to see what designs he does this year! Pumpkin carving isn’t just for kids and we’ve always enjoyed coming up with designs to display both in our house and outside for any passers by to enjoy. You could even turn it into a bit of a competition and see who can carve the best pumpkin!

Put up some Halloween decorations

My love of Halloween and autumn has always been there but it’s definitely increased since buying my first home because now I can do what I want to it and that includes decorating for Halloween! We’ve got quite a good collection of Halloween decorations now and I’m always on the look out for new ones. I really wish we went all out with decorating our house in the U.K. like in America.

Cook a hearty meal

I love my slow cooker and have featured a couple of slow cooker recipes on here before. I love autumn cooking though. From stews, to parkin, warming chilli con carne to anything with ginger in it! Autumn meals are just the best. There’s nothing better than being out at work all day and keeping home to the delicious smell of your tea bubbling away in the slow cooker.
