There are few holiday destinations as glamorous as Lake Como. This has become one of the most Instagrammable travel spots in the world in recent times thanks to its stunning natural scenery and enchanting towns on the lake’s shores. Keep reading to learn about a few of the best towns so that you can find one that best suits your needs.

Bellagio: The Pearl of Lake Como

Bellagio is known as the “Pearl of Lake Como” at the intersection of the lake’s two southern arms and offers stunning views, elegant villas, and winding cobblestone streets. The scenic promenade is a must-visit to soak up the atmosphere while taking in mesmerising views of the old town with dramatic mountain peaks in the background, while Villa Melzi is another breathtaking sight. Many travellers choose Italy guided tours to explore Bellagio, ensuring they don’t miss hidden gems.

Varenna: A Tranquil Escape

Varenna, located on the eastern shore of the lake, is the best place for those seeking a tranquil, quiet, and peaceful escape. The town is known for its quiet charm, colourful houses, and laid-back atmosphere compared to the livelier areas, such as Bellagio. Verenna has a beautiful lakeside walk offering amazing views of the lake with other highlights including Villa Monastero and the picturesque Castello di Vezio.

Menaggio: Outdoor Adventure & Old World Charm

For adventurous types, Megaggio is the place to be, with many scenic hiking trails and proximity to the Swiss border, giving holidaymakers the chance to explore Switzerland as well. Mengaggio is also well known for its old world charm with a picturesque old town with cobbled streets lined with inviting bars and restaurants – this makes Menaggio a great place to soak up Italian culture, giving travellers a bit of everything.

Tremezzo: Home of the Famous Villa Carlotta

Located on the western shore of Lake Como, Tremezzo is famous for its spectacular villas, including the world-famous Villa Carlotta – a museum housing works by legendary sculptors such as Antonio Canova, Bertel Thorvaldsen, and Giovanni Migliara with a gorgeous botanical garden. This makes Ames Tremezzo the perfect choice for art and garden lovers seeking a town with an abundance of lakeside charm.

Lenno: Getaway to Villa del Balbianello

Lenno is best known for the iconic Villa del Balbianello, a stunning villa featured in films such as Casino Royale and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. The villa is a breathtaking sight to behold, but you also have nearby olive groves ideal for a leisurely stroll and picnic, and Lenno has a more relaxed atmosphere than some of the livelier towns.

Hopefully, this post will give you a few ideas of the main towns on Lake Como and help you choose one that best suits your needs. There is a town for every type of traveller here, each with its own characteristics and attractions.
