Happy List: August 2023

5 September 2023 Leave a Comment

Well summer absolutely did not show up in August did it?! Despite the often miserable weather, August was an amazing month. I mean I had the full month off work so I was never going to have anything to complain about but it was full of some really amazing moments too! So let’s get into looking at what happened in August.

What Happened in August

1. August was all about getting some little projects started in the house. I’m not looking to do any big renovations right now as I’d much rather spend my money on holidays if we’re being honest so I’ve decided to do a few smaller things. First up was the porch. I actually started this way back in April but I wasn’t able to get the door painted until August (thanks crappy weather!). It looks so good now it’s done though! It’s so much neater and more welcoming. Everything looked old and messy before and considering it’s the first thing you see in our home it was just so uninviting. I love it now though and I love the green colour we went for with our front door.

The next little home project I started was the downstairs bathroom. It’s not quite finished yet, but should be in September. I did manage to make a really good start on it though and it looks so different. I love the back mirror we went for in there. It makes a real difference to a small room!

2. We celebrated our second wedding anniversary in August so we went to our favourite city, Liverpool for a few days as an early celebration. On our actual anniversary we went out for food and cocktails. Both celebrations were lovely and much better than last year when I ended up in A&E on our first wedding anniversary!

3. August was a good reading month and I manged to get through quite a few books for me too. I love reading, it’s my favourite way to relax. All of the books I read in August were really good too. If you want to follow me on Goodreads you can do, otherwise I also post what book I’ve just read and do monthly book round-ups on my Instagram stories.

4. August was all about having a good think about what to do with my life. I mentioned in July’s Happy List that I was using my time off to work on my blogs but it was really showing me the benefits of working for myself. The physical and mental health benefits were quite eye opening this time and I’ve got a lot to think about for certain. I know that’s a little cryptic but there’s a lot going on in the background right now and hopefully I’ll update more in the next Happy List.

5. Towards the end of the month I rescued a hedgehog. I’d been out to the supermarket and I noticed a small hedgehog out on the path in broad daylight which I knew was a cause for concern so I rushed home to get a box to put the hedgehog in. It certainly wasn’t in a good way and was very wobbly, which I’ve since learnt is a sign of dehydration. I contacted a local hedgehog rescue and they came to collect to. We found out the hedgehog was a girl and was severely dehydrated, covered in ticks and needed a good warm up. Luckily the rescue place could provide her with all the care she needed.

And that was August! Typically summer has made a reappearance now I’m back at work. Just as I was ready for some cosy ‘ber’ month vibes too. As I’ve already alluded to, I have some big things to think about in September so I hope there’s some positive outcomes from that for me to write about next month!

I hope you all had a lovely August. Let me know what you got up to in the comments!
