How can you help to reduce staff stress levels in the workplace

Even if you love your job very much, you can still feel stressed at work. The culture of the workplace is full of things that could be stressful, like deadlines, busy seasons, and meaningful projects. Stress can hurt employees in many ways, from feeling tired and unmotivated to getting anxious and losing their drive.

Stress can be bad for individuals, but it can also be bad for the organisation. You can not ignore pressure in the workplace because it can affect how engaged employees are and how well they can do their jobs.

A company’s workplace needs to be set up to make workers want to put in long hours and look forward to going to work every day. However, they also need to eliminate the things that cause stress and give workers chances to feel inspired and re-energized.

Here is a list of ways that employers can help their employees relax at work:

Wellness programs

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise is essential to dealing with job-related stress. Employee wellness programs, like office gym classes or company-wide challenges to eat healthier, can help employees relax and feel better about their health. Some things that might be part of these programs are healthy eating challenges or office gym classes.

Keep the lines of communication open with your employees

To be a good leader, you need to be able to talk to people freely. If you keep your employees informed about changes in the organisation, expectations, and their performance, you not only keep them on track but also make them feel less stressed and worried. Therefore, keeping employees up-to-date on what is going on in the company and their departments is essential. Also, open communication is a two-way street. The more an employer talks to an employee, the more likely the employee will share their worries, ideas, and opinions. This will help build better working relationships and a healthier organization-wide culture.

Give your workers a place at work where they can go to “chill out”

People sometimes need 15 minutes to themselves to relax, refocus, and take a break from technology and other interactions related to their jobs. Having a quiet room with coffee machines or a “relaxation zone” in the office where workers can spend 15 minutes alone with their thoughts can significantly help fight against stress at work. People often say they feel refreshed and ready to finish the rest of their day’s work after taking a short break where they are not bothered by anything.

Putting the work in order of importance

In a busy office, stress is often caused by things out of the employees’ hands, like when a new deadline is announced. When this happens, employees tend to rush through their jobs because they want to get everything done at once. If you do not want your employees to feel overwhelmed by their work, tell them to make numbered lists of what they need to do and focus on the parts of their jobs that they can control.
