Happy List: January 2021

4 February 2021 Comments : 26

The first Happy List of 2021! These Happy Lists have featured on my blog in one form or another since 2011 which is just crazy. For two years as well as I haven’t missed a single monthly Happy List, so let’s go for a third year in 2021! You know these are my favourite posts to write and you guys always seem to love them too so let’s kick of January’s Happy List.

Well we’re in yet another lockdown and it can be a bit of a struggle to think of things to write about in lockdown, especially with January been my least favourite month too. But I’ve had a good think about it and I’ve managed to come up with a few highlights from the past month.

1. We had snow and a lot of it! For the first time in a while we had a proper snow day meaning I got sent home from work one morning as the snow was getting super thick then it continued all day so work remained closed the next day too so I ended up having a super long weekend and it was absolutely great! At the grand age of 29 I’ve never actually make a snow angel so I gave it a go but by the time I tried the snow had frozen over too much so it wasn’t fluffy and didn’t make a very good angel.

2. Our new bathroom flooring went down in January. I’m wanting to get a lot of home projects done this year and we ordered some new flooring in the Boxing Day sales. It’s made the bathroom look so much fresher as our old flooring was really tired and worn out. The next step is retiling the bathroom then that room will be done. I cannot wait to get all of our home projects done this year, it’s making me really excited.

3. I got a Himalayan salt lamp this month and it’s really helping to relax me. I’ve wanted one for a little while and when Josh me a Himalayan salt wax melt burner for Christmas it just made me want a lamp even more. They’re usually a little expensive but Aldi actually got one in for less then £10 so Josh snapped me one up. I absolutely love it, it’s got such a lovely and relaxing glow to it. I’m obsessed!

4. I’ve been watching a lot of TV lately which may sound like something that a lot of us are doing right now but hear me out. I’m still going out to work in the lockdown and it’s not secret that this lockdown has hit me hard. One of the things that I’ve found that truly helps me switch off is a good series. Josh and I have been watching some things together but I’ve also been taking some time to watch things by myself either when I get home from work and Josh is still working or when he’s in the bath. It’s really helped me out and while there’s loads of more productive things I could be doing instead I’m really not going to beat myself up about it right now. I may do a round up of what I’ve been watching next over the next month.

5. I read the most amazing book in January – The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Honestly, anyone who is struggling right now needs a copy of this book. It’s just stunning. I don’t write full book reviews on here anymore, rather I’ll be doing a monthly round-up of books (the first post in that new series is coming very soon). However I think I am going to write a whole post dedicated to this book because it’s just blown me away. I’ll be keeping it by my bedside to dip into whenever I need it.

So that was January, it was tough I’m not going to lie, I’ve had a lot going on but I do try and keep the Happy List a happy place (with a dose of realness too). I’m hoping for a better month in February.

How was January for you? Let me know in the comments.

Love this happy list! I definitely need a Himalayan salt lamp. I have tea light holders but I need a lamp! That book sounds good, I’m quite curious and may have to get it! Hope you’re ok, fab to hear about the home projects! We are just about to start ours and I’m kind of feeling lost with it all as we have bare plastered walls and floorboards at the moment, so a lot of ideas happening at once. Here’s to a better February x

It’s exciting when you have home projects but when you’re starting from a blank canvas it can be overwhelming when you have lots of ideas going on! I highly recommend getting a salt lamp, I love how relaxing mine is.

I’m glad you still found time to unwind and even got in some downtime alone. I can’t imagine going back into a lockdown, and I hope the current one will be the last for the UK. Excited for your monthly book roundup!

I really hope it’s the last one too. It’s seriously taking a toll on peoples mental health.

I have a Himalayan Salt Lamp and I LOVE it! There’s something about it that can instantly calm me and bring peace, even after a long, stressful day. I don’t work outside the home, I work from my home office, but I understand the importance of finding a way to relax when all is said and done. We were excited recently when some of our favourite shows started to return with new episodes. Sometimes, you just need to find a way to shut off the productive side of your mind and chill out. Right?

Yes definitely. I think right now in the current situation if enjoying your favourite show brings you a little but of happiness and allows you to relax then there’s no shame in spending a little extra time watching TV! The salt lamp is definitely one of my favourite purchases in a long time.

I really like the idea of looking at the good things that happened each month (all too easy to get caught up in the negative sometimes). I’m going to have a think about January and write a list! Thanks!
