I love wax melts, it’s honestly verging on a bit of an addiction. Recently I’ve come across some absolutely amazing wax melt companies and my love for those gorgeous smelling melts has been reignited. One recent discovery is Bubble & Scent and when they released a Harry Potter themed collection for their September box, I of course had to snap it up!

Sadly the Harry Potter boxes were limited release, as are all of their monthly boxes so it’s no longer available. I highly recommend following them on Instagram if you want to keep up with future releases. I thought I would still do this review though to show you what you can expect from them and because I was blown away by this box when I received it.
So lets get on to the melts!
The packaging

The melts arrived in a beautiful purple spray painted cardboard box. On the outside of the box was the 9 and three quarters symbol to represent the platform number for the train to Hogwarts. Inside the lid of the box was the sorting hat asking ‘which house will you be..?’ The level of detail both inside and outside of the box was great and made the whole thing feel a bit more special. The melts were wrapped in black tissue paper and finished with a little sticker with one of the best Harry Potter quotes on it, “It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
Each melt was individually wrapped in it’s own packaging and the label for the scent included on the front.
The Hogwarts Houses

The box came with four wax melt bars in the house colours. Each bar representing one for the four Hogwarts houses. Included in the box was a house traits description. I thought this was a really nice little detail to add to the box and I loved the colours of each bar. I’m a proud Hufflepuff, though I think some of Hufflepuff’s traits are a little off for me because I’m the most impatient person I know!
The scents

As I’ve mentioned the box contained four different scents. The melts were in a snap bar form which each contained five decent sized chunks. The scents included were; Butter Beer for Hufflepuff, Bert’s Beans for Ravenclaw, Pumpkin Pasties for Gryffindor and Fire Whiskey for Slytherin. Here’s a breakdown of each scent.
Butter Beer
The traditional scent when you think of Harry Potter. I was really happy to see this when I opened the box and immediately thought it would be my favourite. I’ve had plenty of Butter Beer candles and wax melts in my time and it’s one of my favourite scents. Sweet and comforting which is exactly what I like. This did smell a little different to any Butter Beer wax product I’ve had before. It wasn’t quite as sickly sweet upon burning it. In fact it smelt very similar to a latte wax melt I have from another company. It had those rich, warming sweet notes but not quite as overpowering as other melts. I really liked this one.
Bert’s Beans
Thankfully this one smelt like sweets and not like the nasty flavours of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans! When I first smelt this one I really liked it although it’s not the sort of scent I’d normally pick out myself. As I’ve mentioned I like rich, warming and comforting scents and this one was sweet but a little fresher. It was fairly strong but not overpowering and give a sweet but fresh scent throw. Not my personal favourite but nice!
Pumpkin Pasties
This one was an immediate hit with my fiancé. It has that typical pumpkin scent you get with pretty much every pumpkin wax product but what set it apart was how strong it was. It was definitely the strongest scented melt in the box upon burning and the scent was the longest lasting one. I really liked this one and I did like how long lasting it was. Because it was so strong though I did find it a little overpowering after a while but my fiancé really liked it so that’s just down to personal preference.
Fire Whiskey
After originally thinking Butter Beer would be my favourite when I first opened the box, I quickly changed my mind when I smelt this one! It was packed with cinnamon which I love and smelt exactly like Fireball Cinnamon Whisky which happens to be one of my favourite drinks. I got very excited about this one! I was super reading to fill my home with this warming cinnamon scents. Sadly when melting this one was the weakest scent in the box and I couldn’t help but feel a little bit disappointed after how well the other three had melted. I did try it again with two blocks of wax which did provide a stronger scent but still nothing like what I expected from a cinnamon based melt.
Overall I really liked this box. The novelty factor of it was really nice and the melts themselves were lovely. I would have just liked them all to be as strong as the pumpkin one.
Where do you buy candles and wax melts from? Let me know any good small businesses in the comments!
