How to brighten up your bedroom in 5 easy steps

18 June 2020 Comments : 46

AD – this is a paid advertorial but all thoughts are my own.

Your bedroom should be a calming and relaxing space that you can retreat to at the end of a long day. The wrong decoration choices can make your bedroom feel less then welcoming though so here are 5 easy changes you can make to brighten up your bedroom

How to brighten up your bedroom

Bright accessories

Rather than constantly changing the colour of your walls the right accessories can make a world of difference. Think light and bright and you’ll be on to a winner. Choose bedding, cushions and throws in complimentary light colours and you’ll notice instantly how much brighter your bedroom feels. Your bed tends to be the focus of the room so by having light and bright colours on it your eye will be drawn to that and your room will feel brighter.

Neutral walls

Statement walls are great but when you inevitably get bored of your colour scheme you have to redecorate. Opting for neutral walls means that rather than repainting every time you want to change up your room, you can leave the walls as they are and just play with accessories instead like I mentioned above. Greys, creams and whites all provides a light, neutral base for your room and work well with all other colours.

Think about lighting

Having the right lighting in your bedroom really alters how to room feels and quite literally does brighten up your bedroom! On an evening you probably want the warm, subtle glow of a bedside lamp but when you’re getting ready for an evening out you want something a bit brighter. LED pendant lighting for the bedroom is a great choice for your main light. Not only do they look really stylish but you’ll find one that compliments any decor taste. Pendant lights tend to be quite low hanging which is great if you have high ceilings but that doesn’t mean to say they can’t be adapted. We have pendant lights and the wiring can be shortened so they don’t hang as low but they still look great! Just make sure you can some one making the alterations that knows what they’re doing.

Keep it tidy

Honestly I’m the worst for getting home from work and getting changed and not tidying things up but I always hate the mess! Get into the routine of putting things in your washing basket, tidying away makeup and making the bed every day and your bedroom will feel like a much more relaxing space. Once you’re into a routine you’re much less likely to fall out of it. Your bedroom will look much better and you’ll feel better for it too.

Blinds and curtains

What ever you choose to cover your windows you want to strike the right balance between getting plenty of natural light during the day and blocking out any light on a night. Personally I prefer blinds as they just look neater and less cluttered. Curtains can feel a little heavy and obtrusive whereas I think blinds help a room feel a little brighter but they still do a good job of blocking out light when you want to sleep.

Brightening up your bedroom is really easy to do and can be achieved on a fairly low budget. You’ll be much happier with a brighter and calmer feeling bedroom and you’ll be able to properly relax.

How do you brighten up your bedroom? Let me know in the comments.

Completely agree with all of these; I try to always keep my room tidy because of the whole ‘tidy room, tidy mind’ ideology but I love the other ideas! Thank you for posting x

Keeping it tidy and free of electronics is key. I made huge changes to my bedroom after reading a book on insomnia. I keep it as a work free zen space.

I try to keep my room as minimalist as possible. Clutter just stresses me out. I am lucky to have quite a sunny room so I used a light grey paint with white ceiling and skirtingboards.

I really enjoyed this post! The transformation of my room from how it was has been immense πŸ˜‚

It’s now filled with grey, white and blush pink furnishings which makes it feel a bit more inviting and open.

Although I’m not so good at keeping it tidy, so that point made me chuckle!
