If you are lucky enough to have a decent garden space, then you should definitely take as much time working on its design as you do on the inside of your home. After all, our summers seem to be getting better and that means that the garden really can be utilised as an extra room, at least for a few months of the year.

If you want to make the most of the summer months this year, here are some of the things you can do to style your garden and make it the envy of the neighbourhood:
Match the interior
One of the simplest, but most effective exterior design tips is to harmonise the garden with the inside of the house. Basically, if you live in a traditional cottage, you should plant a typical English garden with roses and primroses and maybe an apple tree, but if you have a more edgy, modernistic home with a unique decor, you should take risks in your garden and do something unexpected such a a Japanese-inspires en garden. Let the theme from the house spill out into the garden and it will look and feel right.
Make the most of the view
Many of us don’t have gardens with particularly great views – the neighbours house and a big fence or three are all we have to see, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of the views. Plant trees and shrubs to hide the neighbour’s fence, or paint your side (ask for permission if it’s not your fence) for prettier views that will relax.
If you are lucky enough to have a great view from your garden, it makes sense to make the most of it by positioning benches and garden furniture in the places that will let you see the most of it. You may also want to use a lot of glass and perspex, for example using wooden greenhouses instead of sheds and glass tables instead of wooden so that the most of the surroundings can be made. Anything you can do to enhance what is naturally there will be a boon.

Create a Lounge Area
When the weather is good, you want to spend as much time in the garden as you possibly can, but it can get quite uncomfortable out there. Luckily, it is not difficult to make your outdoor space cosier. Start by picking an area that is as flat as possible, and then add some rattan sofas, and a few tables for holding drinks and snacks. Then. invest in a parasol to keep the area shaded, If you want to be a little hipper, you could hang boho-style Indian tapestries from poles to create a unique shade instead. Throw in a fire pit for when it gets cold and add outdoor cushions on the sofa and the floor and you’ll have the makings of an enjoyable space you can enjoy all day.
Add Some Quirks
The summer garden should be fun, so add some quirkiness by hanging a hammock between two trees, parking a vintage bike and filling its basket with flowers or hanging a handmade swing from a tree for added personality.
