Christmas has been and gone, the snow has (hopefully) been and gone, and the sun has come early! If the spring weather and warmth is anything to go by then, Summer should hopefully be a beautiful one and what better way to enjoy the summer than throwing a few garden parties.

It’s not too early to start thinking about it, and you can always have a back-up plan in case closer to the date the weather’s not great, but for now, think positive. What birthdays, anniversaries, exam results or other celebrations have you got coming up this summer? Regardless, you don’t need an excuse to enjoy the sun and have a party so have a look at these top tips and ideas and get planning.
A Garden Party can come in many forms if you have a garden big enough then you could hire a marquee for shelter if it rains or even buy one if you think you’ll make good use out of it. You could hire chairs, or ask everyone to bring some and you could either cater it yourself or hire someone in. One of the most important things you need for a garden party though is a good garden, whether yours is a paved yard or a luscious green landscape, it needs to be safe and able to accommodate your guests, so if you were planning a new lawn this year, now’s probably the time to get sorting it.
With a garden there are so many themes to play with, it could be Hawaiian themed with cocktails in pineapples and coconuts or an ‘English Country Garden’ theme with sandwiches, cakes, and tea, bunting for decoration and a string quartet. Or you can always opt for a traditional barbecue or picnic.
A picnic can be easy to, and if you don’t have a garden to host it in, then the great thing is you can do it in a park or at a beach. If you want to host it, then the food can be simple enough with sandwiches, crisps, fruit, and cake. You could ask everyone to bring something and then all share. All you need to do is get yourself a nice large picnic blanket, a picnic basket, and some chairs for those who don’t want to sit on the floor.
Or another classic and straightforward idea for a party in your garden is, of course, a barbecue. Barbecues are what summer is all about, and when you’re standing over the sausages with a beer, life couldn’t get much better.
Homemade is always best at a barbecue – especially burgers. You can make amazing burgers from just salt and pepper and good-quality meat, make sure you buy mince with plenty of fat, or get your butcher to give you some minced flank or chuck for juicy, flavorful burgers.
However, with all these options, supermarkets are so fantastic these days that you really can go and get everything you need with very minimal effort. You can then spend your time concentrating on beautiful garden decorations, cute napkins, trendy glassware, cake stands, lights and candles…and of course a fantastic playlist.
