Book Review: One Of Us Is Lying

22 May 2018 Leave a Comment

One of us is lying by Karen McManus book review
Yale hopeful Bronwyn has never publicly broken a rule.
Sports star Cooper only knows what he’s doing in the baseball diamond.
Bad boy Nate is one misstep away from a life of crime.
Prom queen Addy is holding together the cracks in her perfect life.
And outsider Simon, creator of the notorious gossip app at Bayview High, won’t ever talk about any of them again.

He dies 24 hours before he could post their deepest secrets online. Investigators conclude it’s no accident. All of them are suspects.

Everyone has secrets, right?
What really matters is how far you’ll go to protect them.

One Of Us Is Lying has been on my radar for a little while now. If you read my book reviews regularly, you’ll know I’m no stranger to young adult fiction and I tend to really enjoy them. This novel was no exception to that.

When high school gossip, Simon dies in detention the four other students in the room are immediately thrown into the spotlight. Who had the biggest motive for killing him? Who has a secret they want to keep hidden? As the story unravel’s so do each of the students lives, as the case gains notoriety each of them struggles to keep their secrets hidden and take matters into their own hands to discover who the killer is.

I don’t know if this is just me, but I got major 13 Reasons Why vibes when I read this, which isn’t necessarily a criticism. I was completely drawn into finding out who killed Simon and I loved that each of the main characters was really well developed and came with their own individual stories that gripped me just as much as the main one.

I often have high praise for YA fiction but this novel truly was brilliant. I highly recommend picking up a copy and giving it a read because you will not be disappointed!
