It’s already October, and while we’ve breezed through a surprisingly warm September, the true essence of fall hasn’t fully arrived. Sure, the calendar says we’re well into autumn, but let’s be honest, this month there’s been more iced coffee than pumpkin spice lattes, and the weather has stayed deceptively summery. However, the cool breezes, cozy vibes, and those overcast skies are just around the corner, and if you want to stay cute and comfy, you’ll need a few essentials that go beyond the basic trench coats and wool trousers. We’ve made a list of five must-haves you need to grab before autumn actually settles in – some of them you would’ve never thought of!

Cuticle Oil and Nourishing Hand Cream
The shift from summer to fall might be gentle on the temperatures, but it’s not so kind to your hands. As the air gets colder and drier, your skin will crave extra moisture, and that’s where cuticle oil and a rich hand cream come in. Here’s the thing: whether you’ve just stepped out of the nail salon with a fresh manicure or you’re going au naturel, your hands deserve a little extra care during this season. Cuticle oil helps soften and hydrate the cuticles, which often get ignored but can end up looking cracked, and a nourishing hand cream is the ultimate shield against dryness. Look for such ingredients as shea butter, glycerin, and lanolin, a travel-sized tube into your handbag to keep your hands soft and smooth no matter how crisp the air gets.
Merino Wool Sweater
There’s no point in even mentioning why you need a sweater for fall, so let’s focus on the fabric that you need to get instead – merino wool. Unlike other types of wool, this textile is superfine, breathable, and has natural temperature regulation properties, so it can keep you warm both on cold mornings and sunny afternoons without causing you to overheat. Not only that, but jumpers made of merino wool, like Irish knit sweaters, are naturally odor-resistant, so you can wear them multiple times before needing a wash. Just think about the endless possibilities – you can style the same sweater in different ways five times a week and it will still look and smell brand new. And if that is not enough to convince you, you can find Irish sweaters for women made of 100% merino wool on https://www.gaelsong.com/prod_detail_list/apparel-knitwear at a reduced price, so make sure to buy one before it is too late!
Lip Balm with SPF
Just because summer is over doesn’t mean that you can forget about sun protection, and your lips are the first ones to suffer from sun damage even when the weather cools down. A nourishing lip balm with SPF is an absolute essential for the fall season, as it gives you the best of both worlds: it protects your lips from UV rays, but it also keeps them soft and smooth against the dry, windy days. Just like the hand cream, your balm needs to have hydrating ingredients like shea butter, jojoba oil, or beeswax to create a barrier against the harsh elements. Don’t forget to put it on before your lipstick in the morning and reapply it throughout the day to keep your lips soft and protected.
Electric Shoe Dryer
No one really likes to talk about it, but no matter what shoes you’re wearing, they will inevitably get wet once autumn truly arrives. Between the unexpected rains and foggy days, there’s always the risk of soaking your favourite shoes and wondering whether they will get dry until the next morning when you leave for work. Introduce the electric shoe dryer – the game-changer gadget that will become your best friend for the upcoming months! Slip your shoes on this tiny thing overnight, and by morning, they’re dry, warm, and ready to go. Apart from its obvious job, such a dryer also helps prevent that dreaded damp smell from setting in and some of them can even kill bacteria. It’s not exactly the most glamorous thing in your fall lineup, but it’ll certainly save you a lot of headaches once the puddles start appearing.
Waterproof Shoe Protector Spray
Now that you know how to deal with wet shoes with your handy electric dryer, let’s talk about another essential that shouldn’t be missed from your house this fall. Waterproof shoe protector spray does exactly what it says – it protects your shoes from humidity and keeps your favourite footwear looking brand new, even after stepping into an unexpected drizzle. Some fabrics like leather or suede are especially prone to getting ruined by rain or muddy pathways, which makes this spray will be your new best friend. It’s easy to apply: just give your shoes a generous coat of spray before stepping out, and you’ll have an invisible shield that repels water, mud, and stains, so you can rock your favourite styles all season long without worrying about damage.

I can’t believe we’re already back to autumn/winter again. Meeeeeh! We barely had any “summer” here in the UK so it’s more than a little disappointing, even though I do love snuggly blankets and jumpers. I actually came across an electric shoe dryer the other day when browsing a little online shopping, never knew they even existed! I also bought my first cuticle oil last week as I’ve never used one before but my hands are awful and the cuticles are looking more than a bit worse for wear. It works well, just need to find the time to actually use it regularly. Nice post, makes me feel a little less awful about the autumn being here already! 🙂 xx
I have regular nail appointments but I’m the worst for forgetting to use a cuticle oil at home even though it really helps! I’m glad the post made you feel a bit better about autumn! xx
