Happy List: February 2024

5 March 2024 Leave a Comment

So who else is ready for spring? I am sick of seeing rain now and I am craving some blue skies. I didn’t think I was someone who really suffered from SAD because I am an absolute autumn girly but it’s been a real struggle since January this year. This is the UK though so I’m not holding out too much hope for March being much better. A girl can dream though! Let’s take a look at how February went!

February had some really nice moments. It was also a big planning month. Some exciting things are coming this year and I can’t believe I’m finally getting to live the self-employed life that I’ve dreamed of for a long time!

1. We might as well start with the thing that is dominating most of the photos this month – London! This trip was planned for a whole year and we had to change the date three times because of various train issues. We were supposed to go in August 2023 but finally made it in February 2024! It was well worth the wait though. We did so much stuff and did a crazy amount of steps. My feet have never hurt so much. We did a lot of walking just looking at things but we also had some amazing food at Borough Market and went to the Sky Garden, Horizon 22, Leake Street Arches and Battersea Power Station. It was such a fun couple of days.

2. If you’re a regular reader of these Happy Lists then you might be wondering why there’s a dog in the photos when we’re a cat household. This dog randomly appeared in our garden one day and we had no idea who he belonged to. He ended up spending 3 hours with us until we found the owners. He was a super friendly little thing but he was so needy. I ended up with him sitting on my knee while I tried to work. It turns out he lives on our street even though we’ve never seen him before!

3. Last month I mentioned I’d joined the gym but just for swimming I decided to pluck up with courage though and try out the gym for the first time in my life. When I say I am shook. I cannot believe I am actually enjoying the gym. I was pure crapping myself the first time I went but I decided to check things out with my mother-in-law and her partner so they could show me the ropes then I decided to get brave and go on my own. It has been incredible for my mental health, like honestly at this point, I don’t actually care too much about what swimming and the gym are doing for my weight because I just feel so much better in myself.

4. We booked a holiday! Kind of. We actually already had a room reserved for the hotel we stayed at in Portugal last year but when we booked Florida we decided we wouldn’t go to Portugal but we’ve changed our minds so we went ahead and booked the flights! I’m really looking forward to going back to Portugal. We had a big chat about travel and work which influenced the decision, but more on that in the next point!

4. February was a huge month for future plans. As some of you will know I used to work in a school which means for the past 10 years I’ve been tied to the school holidays whenever we’ve wanted to do anything. That meant we never really went anywhere because school holiday prices are insane. One of the big deciding factors in quitting my job and going self-employed was to give us more freedom.

It’s been just over 4 months since I quit my job now and I’m pretty settled with regular clients so we felt it was time to start looking into some working holidays. Portugal will be the tester for this but we plan to work in the morning then we have afternoons and evenings to enjoy the holiday. We’re both super lucky in that we can work from anywhere in the world so it’s time to start taking advantage of that.

So we’re only back from Florida a month before we head off to Portugal. This is exactly what I dreamed of when I quit my job so I feel incredibly lucky that it’s happening so soon. We’re also looking into some trips for September and December but we don’t have any firm plans there just yet.

So that’s it for the February Happy List. All this future planning has been good for my soul, I’m not going to lie. We don’t have any plans for March but there’ll be lots of Florida planning happening as we go in April. It’s also Josh’s birthday this month though we’ve agreed not to really do much with all our travel plans.

How was February for you? What did you get up to? Let me know in the comments!
