Christmas in Narnia at Castle Howard

14 December 2021 Comments : 8

A couple of weekends ago my Dad and I headed to Castle Howard near York to check out their Christmas decorations. It’s become a bit of a tradition for us to have a Christmassy themed day out together and it’s something we both really missed last year as we weren’t able to do it with all the restrictions in place. It was so nice to be back doing this tradition this year.

We’ve actually been to Castle Howard before back in 2018 when the theme was The Twelve Days of Christmas so we knew that they did events like this well. Christmas in Narnia felt really magical and I actually ended up taking about 70 photos as all the decorations, colours and little details were just absolutely beautiful.

Don’t worry though I’m not sharing all 70 photos today. I just have a little snapshot to remember the day by. A little old school photo diary if you will.

The theming was absolutely amazing from all the different lights and sounds and at one point there was even a cool breeze blowing through to replicate stepping out of the wardrobe and into Narnia. There was just so much to take in!

One thing I’m always a bit of a sucker for when we go to anything like this are the fireplaces. One because I really want a fire in my home and two because the decorations are always stunning. I think I got a picture of every fireplace in the house as well as some close up detail shots!

None of the decorations or rooms disappointed but I certainly had my favourite areas which was the mermaid bit which you can see in the cage photo above and the autumnal dinner party below. The colours and designs in both of those rooms were just out of this world.

I just had to end this post with one more fireplace!

In all it was an absolutely lovely day out. Not only was it nice to be back doing Christmas things after last years absolute write off of a Christmas but it was really great to spend some time with my dad and be back doing our festive tradition!

It looks lovely! I would like to experience visiting a castle during Christmas one time since I live in Asia. I love mermaids, so I got excited too when I saw your photo with the mermaid decor 😂

These pictures look amazing. I wish I could make it to York to see this in person. Your picture are great but it would be different seeing it in person. Thank you for sharing.
