5 goals you need to boost your blog in 2020

For the first time ever I’ve decided to create some blog goals. If you’re looking for some blogging goals too I’ve created a few simple ones for you to follow to get your blog in a strong position for the new year ahead.

Goals to boost your blog

For the longest time blogging was just a hobby and I didn’t see the need for goals but now it’s a side hustle that I’m working damn hard at I figured it was time to focus my mind on where I want my blog to go in the new year. If you’re wanting to do the same I’m going to start with 5 super simple goals you could follow to get your blog ready for 2020.

Buy a domain

If you haven’t done so already buy a domain. Having your blog ending in something like blogger.com or WordPress.com doesn’t look good. Most domains are actually super cheap to buy and just need renewing yearly. Both this blog and my wedding blog have domains from Google and I pay £10 a year per domain. Having your own domain looks better and it allows you to track and build your DA.

Get a Pinterest account and optimise it

Pinterest is where it’s at. I’ve wasted years trying to make Instagram work and it just doesn’t for me. I’ve recently invested time and money into Pinterest and while it’s far too early to speak about results I have a very good feeling about it. I’ve taken the time to educate myself, I’ve purchased the Tailwind App and I’m clued up on creating pins. I do have some Pinterest posts planned for the future but I highly recommend investing some time and effort into Pinterest and getting your account set up ready to drive traffic to your blog.

Tidy up old posts

Your old posts probably aren’t going to be as good as your new posts and that’s OK but you do need to tidy them up. Make sure the layout matches your more recent posts, insert headers and keywords and update images and Pinterest graphics. If like me you have a lot of posts this can be a little overwhelming but start with the posts that fit in most with what you blog about now and get those up to the standard of your current content then worry about the other stuff.

Create a clear vision

Whether you’re a new blogger or you’ve been blogging for years like me, you need a clear vision of where you want your blog to go. Think about niching down but also think about the topics you're most passionate about. Have a clear vision of where you want your blog to be in 1 month, 6 months and 12 months. Even if you only blog as a hobby I still think this is important as it’ll give you a better idea of the kind of content you're passionate about.

Educate yourself

This is something I’ve come to realise in the last few months of 2019. I may have been blogging for a long time but I haven’t been earning money from it for a long time. I don’t know the best ways to earn money from my blog, or how to consistently drive a high amount of traffic to my blog because I’ve only ever done it as a hobby and that stuff didn’t really matter. In order to better myself and my blog I’ve purchased a few ebooks and online courses to get me up to speed with all the stuff I don’t know. If you’re looking to take your blog that step further it’s important to educate yourself, learn from where others have succeeded. Hopefully my investments will pay themselves back in no time.

My goals

This is the first time I’ve ever set myself blog goals. Last year I did vow that I wanted to increase paid blog work which I did but I’ve decided to create a whole set of goals just for my blog. I do have 5 in total but I’ve decided to keep two just for myself, because I do think sometimes the phrase ‘make more moves and less announcements’ has to come into play. So I’m keep two goals back just for me to work on quietly.

I will double my blog income - Last year I simply said I wanted to increase paid work so I’ve got a little bit more specific this year. I’m going to make double the income I made last year.

I will relaunch my mailing list - I started a mailing list back in January 2019 and it was so much effort to try and keep up with so I just quietly let in fade after a few months. I’m not putting a time scale on it but at some point this year I want to do a complete relaunch of my mailing list. I want to create something I can proud of and something that will actually benefit the people who choose to subscribe to it.

I will consistently drive traffic to my blog via Pinterest - As I mentioned above I purchased Tailwind in a Cyber Monday deal which means I’ve been using it for less than a month so I’m still getting to grips with it and learning everything I need to know. 2020 will be the year I crack Pinterest and consistently drive traffic to my blog via my pins.
