April in Pins

Pinterest has to be one of the best things ever, right? I can spend hours on there looking at everything from beautiful interior design to cute animals. Given that I love Pinterest so much I've decided to do a feature at the end of each month showing you what's caught my eye on Pinterest throughout the month.

Here's what I've been pinning in April...
  1. Hair this length and this colour? Yes please!
  2. A cute little fluffy duckling put me right in the Spring mood
  3. Pastel coloured pencils = stationary perfection
  4. Pink brogues of dreams
  5. I love this fire place
  6. Brigitte Bardot looking perfect. I want to go back to the 60s!
  7. Really loving the dusky pink and grey colour scheme
  8. This pork and apple burger with camembert had me drooling
You can keep up to date with what I'm pinning by following my Pinterest boards here.

A New Look Haul and Other Bits

Pastels and I are currently having a never ending love affair and New Look just seem to be doing the most perfect pastel items at the moment so of course I could not resist buying a few things and I may have gone a little knitwear mad in the process...oopps.

Blue Jumper - £19.99 (not online)
I'm really loving pastel blue tones at the minute so I had to pick this up
Split back coral and chiffon jumper - £17.99 (here)
I like how this jumper is a bit different with the split back and the chiffon under layer
Speckled jumper - £11.00 in the sale (not online)
This is the perfect slouchy jumper and looks like an explosion in a sweet factory with all the speckles!
Daisy cut out shirt - £17.99 (here)
Not something I'd usually pick but the cut out detail is very cute and it looks good dressed up or down

I thought I would also add a couple of other bits I picked up around the same time that aren't from New Look.

 Primark cardigan - around £6 I think
I needed a new goes-with-everything cardi and this one is super soft
Primark Breton top - £3.50
I've been after a cream and black Breton top for a while and this is a perfect loose fit
H&M shirt - £7.99
This shirt is silky soft and is another good one for dressing up or down

After all that I think I need to curb my spending for a while, although no doubt something will catch my eye again sometime soon!

Book Review: A Monster Calls

The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn't the monster Connor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming...

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Connor.

It wants the truth.

A Monster Calls is a book I've heard quite a lot about in the past few months which put it at the top of my to buy list until my mum said she had it and I could borrow it. I read this book fairly quickly for quite a few reasons, one it's bloody amazing and two I read the illustrated version so quite a few pages are taken up with pictures. Personally though I really enjoyed the illustrated version the dark, haunting sketches really added to the book.

The topic of the book is such a big one and one that effects almost everyone's lives, unfortunately, in someway...cancer. Connor's story is one that is incredibly touching as he goes on a journey of accepting that his mother is dying and the thoughts and feelings he has about this.

The monster tells Connor three stories all of which end in ways that Connor doesn't agree with, the monster tells Connor after the third story Connor must tell him a story, the truth of his nightmare. The truth Connor reveals is heartbreaking and this book easily had me in tears on more than one occasion.
Even though Connor's tale is very sad, it's the monster that makes this book for me. It's such an unusual character and one that's been very well written.

I often dislike endings to book and I'm very hard to please with endings but the end of A Monster Calls was one of the most touching, poignant ones I've read, yet so brilliantly done. I strongly recommend this book to everyone, it's not like anything I've read before and you won't be disappointed.

Rating:  ★★★★

A Very Yellow Walk

On Good Friday, Josh and I took a very yellow walk. The bright blue sky and sunshine yellow fields certainly made for a very cheery walk.
I couldn't help thinking after, that if I was a fashion blogger I would have been frolicking around in these field in some pretty, floaty dress!
The lonely tree is always a favourite of Josh's when we walk around here.

A small Lush haul

I love Lush and the amazing smelling products they sell but by far my favourite smell is that of Snow Fairy shower gel. Unfotunately it's only released at Christmas so I've had to look at other ways of getting my fix!
I've wanted to try a Lush lip scrub for a long time and given my love of the Snow Fairy sent I just had to pick of the Bubblegum one, it's exactly like Snow Fairy and you can even lick it off your lips! I've only used this a couple of times but so far so good. It's making my dry lips extra soft.

I couldn't resist picking up some of Lush's seasonal easter offerings, especially when they're as cute as this egg and bunny. Fluffy egg is bright pink and sickly sweet, it's fragranced with an old Lush scent - Candy Fluff and smells pretty much like Snow Fairy. I am very much looking forwards to having a bright pink bath.

Bunny is a bubble bar, probably my favourite kind of product from Lush. I've yet to use these but I think I'm going to cut it into smaller pieces to get a few baths out of it. I like to do this with all my bubble bars but I kind of feel bad with this one as it's so cute! Bunny has a pink middle and blue cornflowers in it that float in the bath it's also full of moisturising oils and butters which is going to be a real treat! Again I think this one smells like a less intense version of Snow Fairy.

What is your favourite Lush product? Let me know in the comments.

HOLIDAY: A Trip to York #2

In my last York post I left it at the point of having had a relaxed morning in the park and a little wander around. After all this we headed to the York Castle Museum, we've been there quite a few times but there's so much to look at in there and we really enjoy it. We also decided to visit the National Railway Museum seen as it's free and we've never been there together.

Quite a few selfies were taken with various display at the museum! Of course my favourite exhibition was the 1960's one. Some of the trains at the railway museum were huge which just made me look even smaller!
After all the wandering about it was of course time for a trip to the pub before heading back and getting ready to go out at night. We decided to go for an Indian and it was so nice, one of the best Indian's I've had. In all day two in York was pretty perfect, if not a little tiring.

On our last half a day in York we explored the walls some more, I can't believe that in all the times we've been to York we've never properly walked on the walls!
As we came off the walls we found these cute little fluffy goslings and this perfect view of Cliffords Tower. Before heading home we had a look in the shops, enjoyed a huge hog roast sandwich and of course had one final little drink in our favourite pub. Oh and we even found a Christmas shop...
...So of course I had to go in even if there is another 8 months until Christmas!

Our York trip was the perfect little mini break and just what we both needed.

HOLIDAY: A Trip to York #1

On Monday to Wednesday Josh and I took a break away in York. The break was a present from me to Josh for his birthday last month and it's something we've been counting down the days for!
York was the first place Josh and I ever went away to so it's got a special place in our hearts. Even though we've been for days out in York we've not actually stayed there for a good few years now and it's such a beautiful place it's hard not to love being there. Of course the amazing weather helped us to enjoy it that little bit more and we spent our days wandering around the city, enjoying the sunshine and enjoying relaxing and spending time with each other.
On our first afternoon there we came across this little guy by the river who was more than happy to pose for a photo despite all the bread crumbs covering his mouth!
We took a walk along the walls at the back of the Minster as we've never actually done this and got some lovely views.
Whenever we go to York Josh loves to take this shot of the Minster, we probably have a load of the exact same photo. This one is probably the nicest one though with the bright blue sky.
Of course no visit to York is complete without trips to the many pubs, we spent our afternoons tucked away in a small pub that's a favourite of ours, people watching and talking about anything and everything.
I bought some nuts in the hopes of coming across some squirrels in the park. On Tuesday morning we went nice and early while there wasn't really anyone about and fed this cute little squirrel who happily munched away on a fair few nuts.

We also take a photo on this bench everytime we visit York, it's become a tradition. After enjoying a relaxed Tuesday morning in the sun with the squirrels we headed off to some museums.

I have another post coming up at the weekend with more photo's from our trip.

Our Weekend #1

This weekend was quite a fun one, don't get me wrong I'm all for laid back, relaxed weekends watching TV and eating takeaways after a long week at work but sometimes it's nice to break the cycle and do other stuff too.

Here's what we got up to this weekend...

4 Clone Wars episodes watched which is a lot less than usual actually (yeah we're nerds!)
1 jumper returned and exchanged for another size and it's love between that jumper and I
1 birthday celebrated
1 unnecessary slap from my niece and a big smile from her after
Lots of new words learnt my by niece since we last saw her
1 huge pub meal
1 trip to Cosmo (and too many plates of food eaten)
Approximately 10 tonnes of food consumed over the weekend...
....and about 3 stone gained!
5 bets on the Grand National placed and £10 won, not great but better than we usually do

Happy List #101 The March 2014 Edition

March was actually a pretty good month for me. Work wise I moved into a new class and have already had the opportunity to learn tonnes of new stuff, I've attended a fair few courses/training opportunities all of which have been very useful and interesting. Life outside of work has also been pretty good to me, Josh and I got to spend a solid couple of weeks together whilst both of our parents were away, we've celebrated Josh's 25th birthday, gone on some nice walks, I got an unexpected day off work, bought far too many pastel jumpers from New Look and have just begun a new adventure which will hopefully serve me well for my career in the future.

The biggest shock of all is that I actually have lots of photo's for this happy list, having Josh around more meant having my photographer back for all photo opportunities!

April looks as though be a good month too in that I have a two week school holiday coming up soon and Josh and I will be going away for a break in York. I cannot wait!

A late afternoon walk / Little Lexi / Midori Melon - a birthday gift to Josh which reminds me of holidays we had together (which seem so long ago now) / Feeding the ducks
Pretty sky / Ziggy sat in the paper recycling back / Not a pretty sight at the window (alien cat!) / Another nice walk
