Thursday, 28 June 2012

Just a little post today to show you all a DIY project I did last week. Dip dying for clothes seems to be everywhere at the moment especially when it come to shorts, but with places like Topshop charging £35 pounds a pair I figured I'd have a go myself.
If you wanted to you could do this project for around £10 that's a huge £25 cheaper than Topshop, all you would need is a pair on cheap shorts from Primark and all the other stuff I'm going to tell you about. I did use more expensive shorts for my DIY (vintage Levi's) as I love the fit and feel of them so it was worth paying a little more, so my finished shorts came in at around £21 which is still £14 cheaper than Topshop.

Now I ignored most of the rules for dip dying these shorts so if your not feeling as brave follow the instructions, if like me you just want to get on with it then take a look at what I did.

You will need:
 Item of clothing to dye
Dye that is suitable for hand dying not machine dying (I used Dylon in Pink Flamingo which is available from Wilkinson's for £2.99)
A bowl big enough to fit the clothing in
Washing up gloves

Method (my way)
Fill the bowl with hot water and add the amount of salt it tells you to on the packet
Get the dye and mix it in the warm water (the pack says you should dissolve it in some other water first but I didn't bother)
Get the item you want to dye and hold it in the dye for as long as you want (the longer you hold it the deeper the colour) I should also point out that some people recommend rinsing the item of clothing first as more dye is retained in wet clothing, however I didn't as I wanted a more faded look anyway so it's really up to you what you do at this point
Once you've dyed the item rinse it in cold water and be careful not to splash any of the colour onto any of the undyed parts as it will dye those bits too, rinse until the water is clear
The item will also need to be washed on it's own after, however I waited until my shorts were completely dry before washing them to ensure all the day was locked in.

The shorts before they were dyed / Me wearing them (although they look a little pale here) / This photo is more of a true reflection of how they look

It's really really simple to do, it took around half an hour to do my shorts and I love how they've turned out, like I said I didn't want them really vibrant pink as it would have been a huge contrast to the denim, I wanted a more faded, washed out look so I didn't hold the shorts in for a long time but it's really up to you what you do depending on the look you are after!

Birthday Wishlist

A month tomorrow it will be my 21st birthday and I'm ridiculously excited for it, I really can't wait! So today I thought I would share a little birthday wishlist with you so you can see what's caught my eye and to give my boyfriend, Josh some ideas (hi Josh!). There's nothing incredibly exciting on there infact half of it is made up of books so I've split it into two, books and then other bits.

1 / 2 / 3 / 4

 5 / 6 / 7 / 8
  1. The guy who wrote this (and Bob the cat) were on This Moring quite a while back and ever since then I've really wanted this book, I mean just look how cute he is in his little scarf!
  2. I love Band of Brothers, it's one of my favourite shows so I really want to read this memoir
  3. As most of you know by now I'm a huge Beatles fan so when I spotted this book a few weeks ago I knew it would be going on my birthday list. Josh got me John Lennon's other two books (In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works) for Christmas so I want this one too
  4. I absolutely adore this journal, it's so beautiful, each page has a lovely photo of the sky on it. I've wanted this for well over a year!
  5. This little beautiful bottle has appeared on quite a few wishlist posts and I still love it. The bottle is so cute and the perfume smells so lovely
  6. I know this one is definitely a wish but I just love it so I've still included it, I've wanted a black leather jacket for ages and I tried this one on a few weeks ago and fell in love with it but at £52 I think I will have to continue admiring it from afar
  7. I wrote a review on this film when I went to see it (which I posted here) it's one of the best films I've seen in a while so I want to watch it again
  8. How lovely is this palette?! I'm sure everyone knows about the MUA Heaven and Earth palette which is a great dupe for Urban Decay's Naked palette. This one, named Undressed is MUA's latest offering and I've just got to have it, you really can't complain for £4!
Just a little reminder that my blog sale is still running and there are lots of bargains left, please take a look here.

BEAUTY: Boot 17 Falsifeye and Peep Show Mascara's

I own two Boot's 17 mascara's so I figured it would be easier to review them both in one post. The photo's do most of the talking as you can judge for yourselves what the mascara's are like but as some one who's tried a fair few mascara's I have to say these are the best one's I've ever used (and some of the cheapest!)

Now I should point out before I move onto the reviews that I bought the Falsifeye one with my own money however the Peep Show one was sent to me for review as I am part of a beauty group with More! magazine (the More! Hot 100 beauty group) this has nothing to do with my blog though and in no way does it effect my opinion.

So we'll start off with a lovely photo of my eyes with no makeup on, a have quite fair eyelashes and I wear glasses so although I don't wear makeup every day it's important to me to have a mascara that will make my eyes (and lashes) stand out behind my glasses.

 No makeup on my eyes

What Boots 17 say... Watch lashes transform into voluptuously thick, curvy lashes as the oversized brush coats each and every lash from corner to corner, root to tip without clumping. Lashes look fanned, volumised and falsified in an instant!

Wearing Falsifeye (2 coats) / Side shot with the mascara on / Packaging and brush
£6.49 from Boots

I fell in love with this mascara from the first moment I used it, I've always gone for volumising mascara's rather than lengthening one's and this seemed the perfect one. It has a really chunky brush which I don't mind at all but I know it's not for some people. I love the bright pink packaging too! This is one of the cheapest mascara's I've used but by far one of the best, it gives a volumised look with no clumping and it makes my eyes stand out behind my glasses which is just what I look for. It doesn't flake off either and has a lovely consistency, not too runny but not dry either. I would highly recommend this mascara to anyone looking for a volumising mascara.

Peep Show

What Boots 17 say... Perk up your peepers with 17 Peep Show Mascara!! Enriched with fibres, the latest innovation in mascara technology. The fibres cling to lashes, volumising and lengthening from root to tip.
The result? The closest thing to false lashes in a bottle!

Wow is all I can say about this mascara. When I bought Falsifeye I thought I'd find the mascara of my dreams, until I was sent this one and now I know Peep Show is the only mascara for me. As I've mentioned I usually go for volumising mascara's so I was a little sceptical about using Peep Show as it's lengthening but I had no need to worry. This mascara adds so much length to your lashes it's ridiculous and it adds volume too, the perfect combination. It gives me real doe eyed look. This brush is a lot smaller than the other one and I find you get much more control with it when coating the corner lashes. Importantly for me it also makes my eyes stand out behind my glasses. Again the packaging is extremely pretty, the consistency is great and it doesn't flake or clump.

Overall I think both mascara's are the best I've ever used and the prices are amazing, out of the two Peep Show is definitely my favourite and I wouldn't think twice about repurchasing it. It's a Holy Grail product for me now and it's going to take something extra special to sway me from using it!

P.S Don't forget about my blog sale, there's still lots left!

Also... Josh took me out for a meal to an Indian restuarant and been the clumsy thing I am I managed to flick curry at myself, so it want all over the white top above and inside my new blazer. Luckily I managed to get it out of the blazer but I had to go and buy a new top this morning (it's a good job it's only from Primark!)
