The past few days...#2

On Sunday my mum and stepdad came to Coventry to visit me and Josh for a few days and they went home today. Since we've moved here they've visited us quite a few times and it's always so much fun when they come down. We usually go shopping then spend the night in the pub where Josh and my stepdad sit putting the world to rights whilst me and my mum usually end up talking about books (we both love reading). So I just thought I'd do a post with some pictures on of the things I've bought over the past few days whilst they were here (we've been shopping in Coventry and Birmingham) and I've also included a few photo's of some past visits.  Seen as my mum reads this blog I'd just like to say thanks to her and my stepdad for the past few days and thanks for the stuff they've bought me!

Things I've bought

Duo body butter from the Body Shop. This is a new body butter that is spilt in two, the paler half on the left is a thin body lotion whilst the darker half on the right is a body butter. This one is the Macadamia one. Me and mum saw these in Birmingham yesterday and she very kindly decided to treat me by buying me one today.

Books! Aside from these one's my mum also brought three books with her for me to read. I just got a photo of these one's though as these are the one's that have been bought over the past few days. All of which have been recommended to me by my mum so they best be good! L-R The Prince of Mist, Sophie's World, The Room, Angela's Ashes and Don't Look Now. Another thanks to my mum for buying me Angela's Ashes and Don't Look Now - she spoils me! I have so many books here now so they'll be more reviews to add to my other blog when I get round to reading them all!

T-Shirt from Zara. This was only £5 so I had to have it. I like that the fit is a little looser but that the little strings pull it in on the bottom. It's ideal to throw on with a pair of jeans.

A pen from Paperchase. I love all the cute stuff in Paperchase and this pen was from the branch in Slefridges in Birmingham so I got a little Selfridges bag too! (Sad I know). Anyways Josh bought me this, the little pink deer is so cute.

Past Visits

A bull made of sweets in the Bullring, Birmingham and me and my mum in Birmingham

Me and my mum in Starbucks and my stepdad, mum and me in Coventry

Me and my mum shared this huge dessert whilst my stepdad had one to himself! (It's funny how it looks nowhere near as big next to him as it does us!)

BEAUTY: Models Own Nail Polish

I bought three Models Own nail polishes yesterday as they are currently 3 for 2 in Boots. I've never tried these nail polishes before so seen as they were on offer I bought some. I have to say I'm not that impressed with them, when you open them they have a really strong smell to them and the consistency is very thin and watery meaning you need quite a lot of coats to achieve a good colour.

Models Own Nail Polish
L-R Lemon Meringue, Golden Peach and Red Alert

Lemon Meringue

This is a very pale pastel yellow and it took three coats to get the colour you can see in the picture below. This is my least favourite because I can't get used to the colour it's really different to anything I'd normally wear. However I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Models Own Lemon Meringue

Golden Peach

I love this colour so much, it's a lovely peach shade with a golden shimmer, I'm pretty pale and it suits me so it'd look amazing with a tan! Again it took three coats to get the colour you can see in the picture however I think it'll take around 4-5 coats to get a good solid colour. There a three pictures for this one because I think the third picture captures the shimmer a little better however these pictures don't do the colour justise.

Models Own Golden Peach

Red Alert

There's not much to say about this one, it's the best out of the three it terms of coats needed I put two on to get the colour in the picture. With this one though you can really so just how watery the polishes are. When I opened to bottle it looked very thin and a bit like red water.

Models Own Red Alert

In all I do like the colours of these polishes but I probably wouldn't buy more Models Own polishes. Five coats of a nail polish is a little excessive especially seen as my favourite (Golden Peach) needs the most coats. The only good thing is they dry quickly but thats only because they're so thin in consistency.

All the pictures can be made bigger when you click on them if you want a closer look.

BEAUTY: Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up Remover

As I mentioned in my Happy List I bought Boots Botanics Eye Make Up Remover the other day, I used to use this quite a few years ago but to be honest since then I've not really used a proper eye make up remover I've just used wipes which aren't the gentlest of things for removing eye make up and lately I've noticed my eyes feeling a little sore after taking off my make up so I've decided to stop been lazy and get a proper make up remover!

Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover

What Boots Botanics say

The Botanics range combines active plant extracts in carefully balanced formulations to give you the right product for your skin type. Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up Remover effortlessly removes eye make up even waterproof mascara while also comforting and soothing the eye area, containing soothing Iceland Moss with high sugar content which helps to hydrate and calm skin as well as cleanse . Plant extracts at levels that really work, combined and formulated for unbeatable product performance. Naturally. Authenticated by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

What I think

This removed my mascara really quickly and easily, there was no pulling and rubbing my eyes to remove my make up, using a cotton wool pad I just quickly soaked my eye for a few seconds and then with one gentle wipe my mascara was gone. It definately felt much gentler than using wipes and it left then skin around my eye area feeling really soft. It really did feel soothing and gentle and it was much quicker than using wipes. I can't find any fault with this product and I'm really glad I've gone back to using it. As you can see from the picture below when the bottle is stood still the liquid is seperated so you do have to shake it really well before using it. The only thing I would say is it quite oily but this doesn't bother me as I use face cleansing wipes after anyway to remover the rest of my makeup so that removes any oily feeling on my face so for me that's not really a disadvantage. I would recommed this product to anyone looking for a good eye make up remover and at £3.05 it's fairly cheap too!

BEAUTY: Soap and Glory Bright Here Bright Now

As promised here a few weeks ago I've finally got round to doing a product review for the Soap and Glory Bright Here Bright Now. I've had this product since Christmas but I've only recently started using it. It's described as an 'instant radiance energy balm' to give you luminous skin.

What Soap and Glory say

Makes dull skin dazzle! Soap & Glory skin brightening and energy boosting balm with moisturising apricot kernel oil, aloe vera and our immediate face firming active INSTANTIGHT2.
What’s inside that counts?
• OSILIFT  - proven tightening & lifting complex.
• RONASPHERES and TIMERON PEARLS - special micro illuminating spheres to give skin a smooth radiant glow.
• Soothing ALOE VERA & APRICOT KERNEL OIL to condition & moisturise.
• Cool MINTANGO fragrance to refresh and revitalise.
• With real orange essential oil to uplift and revive.

Apply a generous amount of Bright Here Bright Now™ onto your skin, whenever you feel it flagging. Use it like moisturiser or blend it into your foundation

What I think

I think this product gives a lovely glow to the skin. I do use it alone most of the time as I don't really wear makeup during the day and it makes my skin feel really soft and silky and this lasts all day. However I don't use it as a replacement for my normal moisturiser as I have quite dry skin and I don't think this would be the best of products to use for that. When I wear it with my makeup for a night out it provides a really good base for my foundation and again provides a fresh dewy glow. I can't say whether the INSTANTIGHT2 technology works as at 19 my skin is firm anyway! But as with all Soap and Glory products it smells very nice. I can't really say anything bad about this product except for the price, at £10.21 (on the Boots website) it is a little pricey for what it is although a little does go a long way so I can see this tube lasting a long time. I would definately buy this again but only as a little treat to myself, it wouldn't be something I'd rush out and buy as soon as it had run out.

BEAUTY: Whats in my makeup bag

The lovely Emma at cupcakes you say tagged me in this post yesterday. So here's my post on whats in my makeup bag. I've just had to pick out my favourite products that I use the most because I own a lot of makeup despite the fact I don't really wear any on a day to day basis. I have a mix of expensive and cheaper makeup but I don't mind paying more for good makeup.  Here goes...

This is my hello kitty makeup bag as you can see it's fairly big (I do own a matching black one that's much smaller)

These are my foundations and powder. I have Clinque Supermoisture Makeup which is the darker swatch on the right in 04 Ivory, Clinque Blended Face Powder in 03 Transparency 3 and No7 Essentially Natural Mineral Foundation which is the swatch on the left in 220 Light Beige.

These are my concealers. The one on the left is Natural Collection Cover Up Cream in Fair and the one on the right is Natural Collection Corrector Stick it's green as it covers up areas of rosy skin.

These are blushers and bronzers. The one of the left is Elizabeth Arden Cheekcolour in 21 Apricot and matches the first swatch on my hand. The one of the right is Natural Collection Sun Tint Bronzing Powder in Sun Shine and matches the second swatch.

This is my Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes eye contour kit. It contains Boi-ing concealer (although I find this too dark for my skin colour) and base, contour and line shadows in neutral colours.

This is my favourite thing ever. Urban Decay Book of Shadows Volume III. I got it for Christmas and it's got some lovely colours in it. I had the another one of these (the first volume I think) which had around 9 colours in it. This one has 16 colours, 2 eyeliners (in Zero which is black and Ransom which is purple) and a mini Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Oh and the top pops up with lights around it as you can see in the photo.

These are my other eye makeup products. L-R Max Factor Masterpiece Max mascara in Black, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (full size version) and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Zero (Black).

These are my lipsticks/gloss. L-R Maybelline Watershine gloss in 420 Apricot Freeze, Barry M Lip Paint in 121 Pillar Box Red, Barry M Lip Paint in 146 Dolly Pink and Barry M Lip paint in 53 Coral.

These are my makeup brushes. Back row L-R QVS eyeshadow brush, QVS eyeshadow blender, Beatles Lady Madonna compact mirror. Front row L-R Kabuki brush (only from Ebay!) QVS blending face brush (I use it for my bronzer), QVS blusher brush and foundation sponge.

So there you go that's my makeup bag! If you have any questions about the products featured here or would like to see any swatches of the Urban Decay set (or anything else on here) just let me know on the comments!

Tuesday Treats #4

This edition of Tuesday Treats has a twist. I just went on the River Island website for a quick look and they've got some really nice stuff at the moment so I thought I'd dedicate this Tuesday Treats to some of the things I've seen. (Really wish I'd the money to buy it all!)

Maxi Love

Been fairly short (5ft 2") I'd pretty much given up all hope of ever finding a maxi dress that would fit me, I've spent ages in shops looking at all the lovely flowing dresses and watching taller girls pick them up and been just a bit jealous of them. If only I was taller I could have a wardrobe full of them! Then I walked into H&M and there it was...the perfect length maxi dress. So I've bought it, literally an hour ago and I had to tell you about it because I'm just sooo excited! It comes in two colours pink and black (I've bought pink) they're simple yet really nice and at just £14.99 quite a bargain too. I'm thinking that if the black one is still there in my size in a few weeks I'll buy it. This might be my only chance of getting a long dress that fits right so I need to stock up! Anyway here are a few pics of it, they aren't the best of me but you can see the dress! It's not one that sweeps the floor but I didn't really want one like that anyway as I like to see my shoes not have them covered up!

Sunny Days

Just a quick post so I can share some photo's from today with you. Me and Josh went on a walk and soaked up some sun!
Just a quick little acknowledgement for Josh first, as he reads this blog I thought I'd just take the time to thank him for the photo's for my blog. Unfortunately it's very rare I take good photo's (sometimes I do and I'm very proud of those moments!) however Josh takes really really good photo's. So I'm afraid I can't take credit for the majority of pics on here! Thanks Josh!

Not the most flattering photo but anyway...us sunbathing
Catching the clouds and sun in my sunglasses
Little white flowers
Pretty purple flowers
Blue skies
